just find 2 tickets together with a good view; there are many opinions on where to sit and you can't have it all. have sat top balcony myself and enjoyed it. definitely buy through the club site; it's a hassle but getting the membership and waking up early is worth it to make sure you get the tickets you want.

You are correct about this part. I already have my application in so that should be sorted soon. I appreciate the other advice as well.

Is there a US supporters club that could sort you out? Supporters clubs get their tickets before the general sale, as far as I know. I was able to get three this way last match (TBF it was Peterborough).

I looked into this and oddly enough, it doesn't seem like any of the supporters clubs in the U.S. are very organized - it seems like the extent of them is to operate as a Facebook group and organize watch parties. I assume my best bet is to purchase two club memberships and hope I can find tickets immediately after they go on sale or find a ticketholder who's willing to sell and transfer to me.

You're probably right. Have you posted in the "Spares" thread? A long shot but have you tried ringing the club and explaining your situation. Long shot but you never know.

StubHub used to be excellent for faraway fans and there are sites that claim to be able to get you tickets but I genuinely don't know if they're a scam or not. I think your plan is the one I would go with personally. I hate scalpers!
