You can see why this seems like a backward move when you compare deals.

No doubt this window is better then the past.
We just don't know how much money is there. That's why people are saying not to pay the 50m here.
If we all knew we had 100m plus player sales from now on, then I doubt most would care about the fee.

It's quite impressive but I wish these types of stats were based on minutes played. Think that's far more accurate. Bet someone like Cazorla would be top 5 if he wasn't injured every game he tried to play.

I think if it was based on minutes played it wouldn't be a true representation of the stats, if Gylfi is playing 38 games a season and providing 15 assists that's far better than a player who can only manage 15 games a season and getting 10 assists.

To be fair I don't think anyone doesn't want us to spend £50m on a player. I think the issue is with paying £50m for this player.

I like Sigurdsson a lot. If we pay up and get him then I won't complain. To be honest though whilst it's still up in the air... I'd like someone a bit better for that much money.

I know before anyone starts were not thinking of selling him on but in 2 to 3 years time ...

He'll be good for at least 5 years unless an injury ruins him.

There probably are but it'd be a bigger gamble, some players will move this summer and prove to be better 'value' and some will move for more and be busts. We're clearly after a proven player and there are very few about who are available to us.

If a few years ago we valued him at 20 mil, and bought him for 25-30 mil I think most people would be sound with that.

Just got to accept that transfer fees are absolutely insane in the PL these days and have been for at least a year or so now.

Put it this way I'd rather be the team that blows loads of money on players who while not worth the full fee, will obviously add a good deal to the team.... as opposed to being the team who can only make 1/2 signings, or have to resign James McFadden or ask if Landon Donovan fancies a 5 week holiday in Walton. If Moshiri isn't all talk, then it's a luxury that we can afford.

The reason fees shoot up though is there is always one team who grossly overpays and that has a knock on effect.

This is beyond ridiculous now this guy is a dead ball specialist in his late 20s playing for a bottom half team and it's 50M

Last year it was 25 for Bolasie a similar one dimensional attacking player for a bottom half team and the price has doubled in a year!
