£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

We are Everton who finished 7th and qualified for the EL. We are never going to stockpile superstar players. Player trading to improve us is the way to go for now. Players who want to leave are first to go, then we will look at who is not good enough. We will see the investment I believe, not just yet as there is no need.

Ok, so let's drop the BS about Moshiri making a blind bit of difference.

Yes there is: we were promised we'd keep our best players by showing some ambition.

Fell at the first fence.

His first season here after that statement and Stones, Lukaku and Barkley (no doubt) all leave to pay for his financial "backing" of the squad.

Same old same old: just another carpetbagger.

..I just don't get this argument you keep regurgitating. The only way your best players will stay is by being a success. To reach that status will take time. To build the new stadium will take time. The likes of Lukaku wants the glamour now, regardless of what you say to him and how many Powerpoint presentations you make of the new stadium.

Keeping our best players is an aspiration, it will take time.

Just a signing I would never understand.

All the analysis I've seen shows he plays in exactly the same position (i.e. every touch of his analysed for last 5 years) as Rooney and Klaassen. So we would have signed 3 players for the same position.

Where would he play in Koemans' 4-3-3 formation? Wide on the left? The same position that was blamed for his poor performances for Spurs and where his lack of pace and inability to beat a player would be exposed. If we don't sign a tall striker then his one strength, crosses into the box in open space, is instantly negated.

He'd probably play on the right or left of a front three with the ability to drift in, or as a 10.

At Spurs, they played a 4-2-3-1, with everything going through Bale in Gylfi's first season.

Anyway, he wasn't poor at Spurs. The stats and the fact Poch wanted to keep him back that up.

He didn't set the world alight, but wasn't great.

And I'm willing to back that the manager will know just how he wants to use him.

Initially to have the success you have to persuade them to stay.

Chicken before the egg...erm, Eggs.

:bye:

...so under the previous regime we would've seen the same spend as this summer and the significant hike in our salary structure? Even with the expected Lukaku monies I doubt that would've been the case. Indeed, the spend was largely made before the Lukaku income.

It's a bit daft to suggest we go out and spend the same amount again if the prime targets have been acquired. I know you don't like the club to be wasteful.

I think we would have sold Lukaku and then spent the money....that's the only difference, weve bought before we 'officially' sold.

Seems like that's precisely what were doing now with Sigurdsson.

I think the only way this can be proven wrong (before the window closes) is if we see us spending way over 30mil on a centre forward, left back and a centre back as our outgoings I cant see being more than 80mil...

We need those players and I think if we go for proven quality with Sigurdsson then I imagine we would be fine moving on a 50mil centre back as well....if were fine to spend money

I think the powers that be at Everton will wake up this morning and sign off on the extra money.
Expect the clubs to agree a fee this week would be my guess but payment terms and player personal terms are another matter.

Chill out ffs.

It's called negotiating.

The player never wanted Leicester. That gave us the upper hand.

We've supposedly had two bids rejected now. One that Joyce claimed initially was around £30m+ add ons - which was lodged a while back but only got reported around two weeks ago - and the other one being our latest of £40m + add ons, which is more than reasonable really.

If it comes to it, I'm sure we'll pay the full fee, but it's unlikely we'll go over £40m up front I'd say. The issue will more than likely be the add ons.

Negotiating is good. Great.
BUT THEY DONT WANT TO SELL!!!!!

How can you negotiate for something thats not for sale? You cant. The owner dictates " i really dont want to sell but give me this'insert amount' and you can have it."
So its clear the amount is 50 mil. We have wasted valuable time for the player to join and get settled in for the sake of haggling over a few million which darei say is peanuts in this league. So lets just pay the 50 now, today this very second or move on as like i said he could have been here already settled in, played a game in pre season etc .
