£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

Yes and if I sold my house it would cost me 600,000 to buy similar.
It's Monopoly money
It's the kids that will benefit
As to wages , food , beer , cars all cost a lot more now than in 1982
You're right of course, but that doesn't mean we should all pay more for things without thinking.

I appreciate that beer costs more than in 1982 but I still baulk at paying £5 for a pint, particularly because I know I can get good beer elsewhere for less than that. Same principle here - the market has gone a bit crazy, but that doesn't mean we all have to agree that spending £50m on Sigurdsson is good business, or the wisest use of the club's resources.

@davek is currently spot on about Moshiri;
a-- He stated as fact that our best players wouldn't be sold....
b-- He's not exactly thrown money around last summer when he should have done and also now
c-- Weve basically broken even and in @davek 's eyes we have sold in order to overpay on some players.

What I don't agree with him about is about all the transfer business in itself, I think we've made some good signings especially Keane and Pickford. These two will be lynchpins and top quality for us. Both will be starters for England before long.

If we come out of the window having spent anything under 50mil net then in my opinion we have failed in strengthening the squad in key positions or we have managed to land some real bargains.

If we drop 50mil on Sigurdsson then it makes no sense to me why we haven't gone for a superstar centre back for the same price...

Its all about opinions but imo if we don't go after a super centre back then I wont be happy....likewise if we blow 30mil on a soon to be 31 year old Giroud when Dolberg could be attainable....illogical moves.

Were not going to smash the top 4 next season so its best to go for the youth and build a team...not drop 80mil on a soon to be 28 and 31 year old.

You make some good points Zat and I'm not saying Dave is ENTIRELY wrong.

But what I am saying is he's not putting any context to it.

If we bring in £150m from players who didn't want to be here/aren't good enough, why should we have to spend at least £200m?

If we improve the squad for £180m, what does it matter?

It's still a huge amount of money.

You mention bargains - like Sandro and possibly Henri.

Dave also conveniently discounts that we spent £34m in January, without bringing in a single penny.

And Zat, it's not illogical. We need proven players. Giroud could *guarantee* us 15 goals next year. 15 goals that could be the difference between a battle for 7th or a battle for 4th. Same with Gylfi and his assists.

This time next year is when I hope we'd be in a position to spend £80-100m on three *star* players.

Negotiating is good. Great.
BUT THEY DONT WANT TO SELL!!!!!

How can you negotiate for something thats not for sale? You cant. The owner dictates " i really dont want to sell but give me this'insert amount' and you can have it."
So its clear the amount is 50 mil. We have wasted valuable time for the player to join and get settled in for the sake of haggling over a few million which darei say is peanuts in this league. So lets just pay the 50 now, today this very second or move on as like i said he could have been here already settled in, played a game in pre season etc .

They know they will have to sell.

United negotiated with us for Rom.

We're doing the same with Swansea.

What will you moan about when we eventually do really well?

I mean at this point you're finding the smallest things ever to be really miffed off about with no proof to back it up, then you'd be a riot.
Let's 'do really well' and find out. At the moment we finished 7th last season - which effectively ended on 7th January - and we've sold/about to sell our two best players.

That is where we stand at present.

I'll be happy if we win a trophy. Not too much to ask for at a club like this really is it? 22 years without one...who can be happy about that?

Not semi finals or 72 pts are u sure dude?

But yes 22 years without a trophy is way too long for a club like Everton.
