Messi is the best or 2nd best player on the planet. But does that mean he has no flaws?

Do you think Messi's right foot is capable of what Sigurdsson produced with his left in that video?

Do you think Messi can head, defend, block, intercept or pressure like Sigurdsson?

Who's better at defending corners? Set pieces?

Who's better at taking free kicks, corners, set pieces & penalties??

Pace, dribbling & extraordinary goal scoring ability is enough to make you the best player on the planet. It doesn't make you the overall best player on the planet.

It's enough to make up for whatever else you're lacking in, but it is extremely disingenuous to gloss-over every single one of Messi's cons.

Just like it's extremely disingenuous to gloss-over all of Sigurdsson's pro's based on his few flaws.

Regarding the Messi bit, I never said Sigurdsson was better.

But no matter what you say, Gylfi is better at heading, defending along with playing more positions & roles.

Not to mention his crossing, passing & shooting the ball on his weaker foot is miles ahead.



Messi also had less assists than him last season.

He's a better goal scorer because of his superior pace & dribbling. But other than that I struggle to see what else he does better than Gylfi.

A lot of those things can be applied to Barkley too.

Messi is great, but he's terrible on his right foot, incompetent at heading or defending.. His penalties statistics are bad and his free kicks and set pieces are not on Gylfi's level.

Messi is a better striker, winger & attacking midfielder. But can he play CM or DM? Can he score from long range on both feet? Will he provide crosses, through balls & passes equally on both feet anywhere on the pitch?

When did I slate you? I might dislike one or two moderators and about 3-5 people on this thread, but overall I have faith in the community.

My biggest pet peeve is the fact that I cannot even post a Pulp Fiction meme without getting a warning from a moderator.

But clearly there are people here interested in learning about their soon to be record signing. A few rotten apples wont discourage me or them.

The day I realized Gylfi was better than Eidur was the day that I realized Gylfi was already Iceland's greatest player of all-time. Everything he does from this point on is just extra.

Sure he hasn't won trophies, but that can change with Everton.

If he has another 20-30 goal/assist season, what's stopping one of the top 6 from paying £50+ mil for him next season?
