At this point you honestly have to wonder why this is still ongoing. If a fee still hasn't been agreed by now then this is all starting to feel like a colossal waste of time. If the fee has been agreed then why the hell is he not here yet?

OK so I say Max Meyer and you say "he isn't proven in the PL" and I agree but I think he is better and might join.

I say we should sign Yann Karamoh for £15m who would add pace and the ability to beat a man. You say "who?"

I say we should try for Lucas Lima and you say "he might not fit in"

But I'd have anyone of those 3 plus a striker as a higher priority than Sigurdsson.

Then get a more persuasive manager/DOF then. If we have that much money to sign a player and this is the best we can do then save the money and use it on building the best scouting network in the world.

For me the major flaw in your argument is the fact that our manager appears to want Sigurdsson specifically. While different players are comparable, they all have a largely unique set of talents, no two are totally alike. In this case Sigurdsson brings PL experience along with his other attributes, something you pay a premium for due to the large amounts of money with which this league is awash.
Ultimately though , if this is the managers choice then the board has a duty to back him if it has the ability to do so. The manager will be judged by results at the end and it is only fair that he is not hamstrung by unnecessary parsimony.

No evidence to suggest they are better players than Sigurdsson. They might be younger and cheaper but as you said they aren't proven in PL. This AM Lima lad is 27 years old but still plays in the Brazilian League.

And are they available ?

How do you know their clubs valuations ?

Do they even want to join us ?

Look at Iheanacho for instance, he's a class striker Leicester got a good deal for £25million (if you forget he got injured after 17 minutes playing for them) BUT City have put in a £50million buy back clause and if he does well at Leicester they'll use that clause

How do you know, all these players, we haven't already looked at ? Just because every single bit of interest in a player isn't reported doesn't mean it isn't going on behind the scenes.

If City are willing to spend £50million on Walker who is a decent fullback, then £50million for Sigurdsson seems a steal tbh for what he'll give us especially from dead ball situations where he excels.

I get that you want youngsters but a squad needs a balance of young and old and we've already got a lot of youngster pushing through into the first team who are still developing and not 100% ready for premiership and you'd rather we add more than a proven quality playmaker and dead ball specialist who is up there with the best in the league ?
