You really think they can't find 5m to close the deal?

My hunch is there's a classic Mexican stand-off here given how much publicity this has attracted. Sure we have the extra 5 mil but we don't want to be seen to be paying the full asking price. And Swansea went very public on 'not a penny less than 50m'. So a lot of credibility riding on the outcome.

Unfortunately it's what happens in the land of mega egos.

A line has to be drawn somewhere. 40m is already paying well over the odds. I personally think we should be looking elsewhere now. The posters who keep on rating about quickly coughing up the extra money to close out the deal are probably the type of people who are always broke a week after pay day.

You are probably right.

For me this is not really about Sigurdsson at all, if I was confident that the 45m earmarked for that would be put to good use elsewhere between now and 31 August, I would be happy. But on the evidence of this so far, mistrust and cynicism is very much justified unfortunately. If the clubs are less than 5m apart on a fee, in this day and age, and after 5 weeks of talks, than any breakdown is absolutely farcical.
