Just hope we have some sort of backup plan....
I am surprised we haven't tried to get Mahrez instead and he solves the issue of width and Rooney and Klaassen can share the role behind the striker. Walsh mustn't fancy Mahrez attitude or something. We must be very confident of getting Iceland in or we are going to look very silly like last summer with Witsel.

Think that was more down to Witsel being a tit mate. I said it at the time though, when him and his agent started mucking us about we should have just told him to do one and walked away.

It's possible that the higher bid was made on the proviso that the deal was done before the date for player registration for the next round of the Europa League. Once that had passed - which it now has - we would revert to the original £40 million bid. I'm guessing that the revelation that we've now gone back to our original bid has come from the Swansea end, which would tie in with this. I think the ball is firmly in Swansea's court on this, if they want to sell, fine, if not we move on.
Just hope were not playing a game off bluff as it could back fire on us, if RK has decided that he is the player he wants/needs and we don't get him we could be made to look fools over a few million.

I'm getting the distinct impression that there are elements within the media who would like to see this deal for Sigurdsson collapse - and whilst I'm not claiming to be ITK, I feel that irrespective of whatever has been the cause of it not coming to fruition as yet, I am certain in my own mind it will happen before the end of the transfer deadline.

Well said.

If I am honest, I would feel that if we are shattering our transfer record and making a 50m signing I would hope for somebody better than Siggurdsson or maybe more high profile.

How many clubs worldwide have completed a transfer where the fee is 50 or greater, very few I would expect. How many in England ?

I think for that kind of money I would hope to sign a striker that would replace Lukaku.
