I'm getting the distinct impression that there are elements within the media who would like to see this deal for Sigurdsson collapse - and whilst I'm not claiming to be ITK, I feel that irrespective of whatever has been the cause of it not coming to fruition as yet, I am certain in my own mind it will happen before the end of the transfer deadline.

In many ways, it will be hard for the media to explain it - IF we pay 50m for Sigurdsson and they continue the 'top 6' narrative - which often they support this view by stating the 'top 'all being in a differing financial stratosphere to the rest.

We pay 50m for this lad - i believe only United, Chelsea have payed more than that for a player

City and Arsenal - their record transfers are pretty similar to that fee.

meanwhile both Spurs and the rs would be around 15-20m lower than the fee we will be paying.

Are we seriously keeping this thread open until deadline day? Just closed it now and discussion can continue on the summer transfer thread. I think it is quite clear that our business transfer activity is over until the sale of another player which might not happen anyway until deadline day. Let's focus on our current squad and hope that we have enough for at least top 7.
