£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

The frustrating thing about this is the delay will probably cost us points over our first 6 games. It might have been worth paying the extra just to get him earlier.

Still think the transfer window should close before the season starts.

BTW Damo ....its nowt to do with any sell on.
A price was formally agreed end of January for Siggurdson around 35 mil (as was a deal & fee with Burnley for Keane)
Swansea's American owners pushed the price up to 50 mil , totally bypassing the original deal made with Huw Jenkins.
That is the reason for this to be dragged out and nothing to do with any supposed sell on fee to Spurs.
Get your facts right Damo.

That is complete rubbish.

The American owners arrived last summer and were already in place in January 2017.

Everton were busy signing Schneiderlin in January. There was never any agreement with Jenkins and the Americans had control in January.

Talk about 'getting your facts straight'. :dodgy:

Why we waiting to SELL more players before we can buy the players we need Damo?

It should but that cannot happen until there is a uniform start date for the major leagues across Europe.

Spurs are owed money for Sigurdsson.

That's why it's been delayed. Swansea want us to pay it.
Maybe Swansea are trying to hang back as late as they can so there is no time to spend the money, nice big payday into the bank. There were times a few years ago when a lot of us thought Everton did that.

Starting to get a bit worried about our transfer policy. I don't see Sigurdsson solving any of the problems we have with creativity in the final third. He's basically a set-piece specialist, which for £50m seems shocking.

And I don't see us being linked with any players that are genuinely going to help us improve from last year. Defensively we've made a couple of strong signings in Pickford and Keane but our midfield and striking options have gone backwards.

The whole Barkley now possibly staying could be a game played to make Swansea give in to our demands. Even they wouldn't want to keep an unsettled player past the window. However, I still do not see how much can Sigu improve us honestly. I'd rather spend that much amount on an out and out striker.

If we are really trying to break into the top 6 we have 4 '6 pointers' in the first 5 games. We needed another midfielder (sig or other) plus a top quality striker to have a chance in these games. If we don't do well in the first 5 games our top 6 ambitions are over for another season.

I can understand some concerns about attack, as we have lost Romelu and not yet replaced him, but we have lost Valencia and brought in Sandro, which is an upgrade.

we have not sold any midfielders (yet) and have added some quality to it.

Rooney is unknown in that we don't know what he will bring or exactly where he will play, but he is considerably better than anything we have sold, in any position we choose to play him, except for central striker.

The situation is not as desperate as being made out, although I would like to see a striker that can hold up play and link in midfielders breaking forward - and being honest - Lukaku could not do that! Siggy brings a degree of dead ball skill we have been missing for ages, plus hard working and a very decent player.

The night is always darkest before dawn.
