“The Negativity From The Fans Doesn’t Affect The Players”

I genuinely think a lot of footballers don't even think (or maybe even know) about how much money they are on, it's just the way it is.

There seems to be anger in football regarding wages more than any other profession. Actors can get away with being crap but footballers seem to get the 'wage shame' as soon as anything goes wrong. There are plenty of other sports where the athletes are highly paid and I don't hear people moaning. Is it because football is a more of a working class sport? I dunno.

I'm not saying they are immune to criticism, but the wage argument is pointless.

Robbie Savage said something about it, he got completely lambasted for saying it, but what he said was right.

I don't really care what they earn. I do want to see better effort on a more regular basis.

Fans of TV programmes or films don't tend to be as tribal as football fans in fairness. It's just the way of the world. Football results effect people's mood more than other forms of entertainment. If you watch a crap episode of your favourite show you just move on to the next episode and forget about it. With football you are left to stew on it lol

Have you seen the world of Marvel and DC fans...!

What has the wage got to do with it?

Bigbadjeff saying 'you are crap and a waste of space' in Twitter is hardly a constructive criticism.
In general I don't agree with the constant mentioning of wages etc, but in discussions like this I do think it has a bit more merit. I think if you work in a call centre or a shop/restaurant and you deal with the public calling you all sorts day in day day out for minimum wage then the idea of a footballer earning £100k a week getting prickly because the same thing happened to them once is probably a bit jarring. I'm not saying money guarantees happiness or makes you immune to mental health issues or anything, but I think there's probably an understandable element of believing that you're being pretty well compensated for a few nasty comments, in a way that the majority certainly aren't.

We have some of the worst fans around, when we lose a game or 2. Its horrible.

Social media just magnifies that massively.

We have a pop at kopites when they lose a game, and laugh at them, but look at this site and twitter when we lose, or a certain player has a couple of off games, its embarrassing.

Not even close in comparison, Liverpool have just won a league title, a Champions league, the fact they're asking like spoiled kids is rightly laughed at.

While over here, we haven't won a trophy since 1995, looked like winning a cup once since and broke into the top 4 once.

We are truly an embarrassing football club but who doesn't value winning as a core value, therefore fans gets more agitated quickly and rightly so.

We just want a team that isn't scared of no one, turns up weekly with 100% effort and as a club aim to live up to our club motto, you would get more patience if the former was actually adhered to.

Spot on mate.
We demand effort and commitment , anything else is a bonus.
The RS have a sense of entitlement that borders on hysteria.

Blaming fans is another burry your head in the sand trait our club fans have, blame everyone else but not the actual club or the people running it.

We did it when every player left to go to clubs who wanted to achieve something, Lescott, Pienaar, Arteta and Rooney, blame them call them rats, and not for one minute and sit back and think why is this happening?

I won't turn this into an anti board thread but what I will say our fans need to wake up stop blaming players, manager and most importantly each other as to why this club is slowly moprhping into Newcastle.

Good points but I do think people tend to be a lot more harsh on social media than they would be to someone's face.

If players don't want to read angry comments about them posted on social media by disgruntled fans then they have a range of options:

1) Stay off social media. It's neither a "human right" nor a necessity to possess and operate a social media account.

2) Have a social media account, but swerve logging in for 48 hours after you happen to put in a dire, gutless performance.

3) Don't put in dire, gutless performances. No-one lays into players for losing when they have obviously TRIED to compete, the nasty comments only come when players neglect the basic expectations of their roles.
