C'est la vie - if I was Miliband I'd like to challenge all the claims of the last 6 weeks in the House than go out on a whimper. He has nothing to lose now

I agree, mate. However, I don't begrudge him fading off into the distance as quickly as possible. To say it's not an easy job is an understatement, 5 years of that can take it out of you. Throw in the fact it was a crushing defeat and you can start to understand why he left so quickly.

I didn't feel like going into work the next day, so Christ knows how Miliband would've felt.

Dan Jarvis has ruled himself out of standing for Labour leader.

Tory HQ celebrates wildly.

They're going to end up with Chuka Umunna - he's 36 ffs.

I agree but I can see why they avoid it. Miliband was ridiculed at the best of times in the chamber, it would have been brutal for him over the coming weeks.
Unfortunately I think the Labour party is going to be ridiculed by that rabble in the house for quite a while. They're going to be facing smug factor 10 for some time to come.

It would've been a huge ask for Jarvis, he hadn't even been in parliament for a full term.

I can't really comment much further than that as I know very little about him.

Don't think age is a massive problem, he'll be 41 by the next general election, Cameron was 43 and it didn't do him any harm.

I haven't investigated him enough to back him, but I do know he's got good experience and is an assured public speaker, and he's probably willing to be more pragmatic than Miliband.

He might well have huge ambition and has decided the timing isn't right for him now. There is going to be a horrible six months ahead of blame and counter-blame.

He speaks well and I think he'd be more electable than Miliband. In a race with not many standout candidates he is most definitely in the running. Still, can't help but feel it's came 5 years too early for him.

Wasn't too sure about this Conservative government getting in but I have to say, taking a hardline stance on the SNP by saying there won't be another referendum, and scrapping the terrible Human Rights Act? It's a good start. Not to mention reforming the British Broadcasting Communists' license fee.

What is so terrible about it?

maybe burnham as leader and umanna as one of the top shadow posts? good balance..

I've mentioned my reservations about Burnham as leader earlier in the thread. I'd say right now he is the front runner though, that's if he wants it. It's by no means certain he'll even go for it.
