2015 post UK election discussion

I think its possibly more to do with the last election, where there was a significant amount of tactical voting. At that time there were a significant number of seats where the Lib Dems were second to Labour. People who would usually vote Tory voted Lib Dem to stop Labour from getting in, which worked a treat and led to a significant increase in Lib Dem MP's. This time around, rather than voting for Lib Dem again they went back to basics and voted Tory. Labour didn't lose a huge number of seats in England and Wales this time, it was the Lib Dem collapse that did for Labour. The Tories targeted Lib Dem seats and wiped the floor with them.
I suppose that's possible. I don't reallly follow the whole tactical voting malarky side of things so wasn't aware of that.

It just seemed odd center/left wing voters shifting to a right wing party to keep a left wing party out.

I hope the Lib Dems don't throw away what Clegg has done moving them into the centre. It looks stupid now and Cameron did play him but moving to the centre ground was the right move for the Lib Dems. He gambled and lost but history has a funny way of correcting people's opinion.

Especially if Cameron turns nasty and vacates the centre ground because I still don't think Labour have fully learnt their lesson.

You have nothing whatsoever to vote Tory for. Nothing. If you dont own capital, have no land or property or other forms of wealth that cushion you from economic personal collapse then you have just voted against your own interests.

If you lose out in this next 10 years or so (and it is guaranteed 10 years given the boundary changes to come on top of the ground the opposition have to make up) then woe betide you. They wont be arsed if you put an x next to their candidates name. You're in the cross hairs like the rest of us.

You know nothing of the people who vote conservative or their personal circumstances. I know teachers, doctors, nurses etc who all voted for the Tories. These same people who Cameron and co will strip bare and leave for the vultures in your eyes. I appreciate your passion for the subject matter Dave but you label all conservatives as a bunch of imbeciles who have no grasp of politics and what's coming their way. I've taken my time to look at manifestos etc and the life experience of the last five years, and guess what, I still voted for the Tories and feel as a country we are in a better position than if red Ed and his merry men were in charge now.

Face facts Dave, it's a democracy and the will of the people have spoken.

If you have a look at that tweet and see the responses from others you begin to understand why the Tory majority is 'silent'. Anybody who doesn't support Labour or The Greens on social media gets slated and sent ridiculous abuse, which just makes people even more inclined to go the opposite way if they were wavering.

Moronic Labour supporters have a lot to answer for.

Exactly - How many super rich are there anyway?

Last I checked they still get one vote each.

That's not my opinion. Not the people I have in mind who'll be taken to the cleaners. In any case, I'm not particularly bothered about what happens to those who voted for Cameron. If they fall into hardship as a result of voting him in then that's just karma.

That's the point. They aren't moronic in the way they do that.

They claim the moral high ground and shame all disent so it's only as people get older and more experienced they realize how full of [Poor language removed] they are.

For wanting the best for the country, the economy and for everyone?

@SNova and @harry @Jxg

You do understand that when we are discussing the tories attacking the poor and sick, they are not removing some lazy scruffy chavs who cant be arsed working from benefit street into work ... they are targeting people with crippling illnesses and disablities, people with terminal illnesses like cancer and telling them to find a job or die. Were you aware of this?

I wasn't part of this discussion :)

People clocked on to Labour this time around. The reason they got so many votes was due to how many people work in the public sector.

It would be nice to actually have a party that was a nicer right wing party than the Tories and I suspect it's only in the next few years people will appreciate the job the Lib Dems did.

Personally I wanted the coalition last time around and hoped again for that.

It not as clear cut as that IMO. The only thing that was clear was the Tory vote.

The Tory voters were never swayed and gain the floating voters. As did UKIP. As did Greens. And to a smaller degree, Labour.

It was all lined up for a coalition. Exit polls said it. Opinion polls said it. And based on this, a big factor is I think people believed Labour would actually be "okay," both them and the Tory's having to rely on another party to get in again.

SNP did what they were expected. In fact, based on surveys more people in the UK would actually vote SNP if they could when those TV debates finished. Then what happened is that no one expected the Lib Dem implosion.

To me it screams disillusionment in England and Wales.

Its almost like Everton getting into Europe based on the Financial Fair Play. No one saw that coming at the end of a shocking season rather than getting it on merit.
