Tories gained 35 seats and upped their vote total by 0.8%
Labour also upped their vote total by 1.5% and LOST 22 seats.
Strange

The Monster Raving Loony Party's vote held steady at 3,898

I would suspect online readership follows a similar relative trend to circulation, ie; a lot more people read the Mail website than Graun. Go and have a look, I'm sure you can find the data somewhere.

The daily mail website is the biggest "news" site in the world, the amount of hits it gets is insane.

I've just got in and i'm pissed

I've just skim read the last 20 pages .

When this EU vote comes around i'll be voting out even though I think it would be a disaster if this [Poor language removed] hole of a country comes out of the EU but I'm going to do it anyway as pay back for putting the heartless bastards back in .

Labour can't afford to waste time blaming the media etc for the defeat.

Labour needs first of all to decide what and who it stands for. It then needs a leader who can articulate that message in very clear, simple terms. It is not a complicated task.

they'd have a point, certain people hold too much power and use that in complete self interest, however I agree with your point, and it would probably self defeating as a party to go down that road

I propose British Cheese for British workers, and foreign cheese for foreign workers.

If you want to do international lunchtime swapsies with your cheese based items, then I will work hard to make this trade agreement happen.

CAN I GET A YEAH?!?!?!?!

Exactly right. It needs to redefine itself and it's position on the political spectrum. It also desperately needs to sort it's PR out.

As the biggest single failing of the Labour Party in that election and the 5 years that preceded it, was their complete failure to challenge the completely false claims by the Tories about the state of the economy at the time they took office, in relation to the cause.

The Tories had not objected to any Labour spending pre the crash and the crash wasn't their fault, however the Tories spun the crash into a Labour overseen disaster and the Labour Party came back with knack all. They also completely failed to remind the electorate that the party who were the ones we can supposedly trust with the economy had overseen a double dip recession.

At the end of the day, Labour repeatedly shot themselves in the foot.

1) They just cannot resit gimmicks such as Kinnocks triumphalist rally in Sheffield pre-election and now this ridiculous "Ed Stone".

2) Unfortunately we are totally media dominated and so the leader has to be photogenic and generally not weird.

3) They underestimated the fear SNP would generate in English voters and they should have been absolute on no power share for SNP but of course Labour wanted power so it was always going to do some deal if that was possible in order to form a Government

4) They presented too sanitised a campaign that looked stage managed. Towards the end Cameron took off his tie, rolled up his sleeves and started haranguing his audience. EM did nothing of the sort & so came over as dull.

5) EM & Russell Brand ....... oh dear

6) Jobs are now available and more people are in work so why risk rocking the boat with a tax & spend or borrow & spend policy that Labour were proposing with SNP egging them on to spend ever more?

It's going to be a long road back for Labour now that Scotland has turned against them and if the Tories push through boundary changes, it could be even longer.

VOTE LOONY

It's an "eyes on the prize" situation. Too many good people have invested a huge amount of time and effort in chasing a ridiculously nebulous dream in my view.

As with Kopites, stop blaming everyone else & think about what we should have done differently.

God knows I couldn't feel more badly about the wasted efforts of party workers but I feel a damn sight worse about the old woman trying to decide which is the cheaper can of beans; the learning difficulties bloke "persuaded" to apply for Job Seekers Allowance rather than E S A; the wheelchair user whose local library has closed and deprived him of a social centre.

Through a mixture of hubris and lack of political understanding, Labour has screwed the very people it once existed to support. Humility and testicles are required to put this betrayal right.

There's damn all we can do about Scotland. The Plantagenet empire began to unravel in 1922 and continues to decay .. you can't fight the forces of history ... but you can try to find a path to alleviate the dreadful consequences of current economic drivers.
