I feel a damn sight worse about the old woman trying to decide which is the cheaper can of beans; the learning difficulties bloke "persuaded" to apply for Job Seekers Allowance rather than E S A; the wheelchair user whose local library has closed and deprived him of a social centre.
They're living in the wrong country now

Possibly. Or Cameron might resign early and let his successor take over in mid-term. A likely scenario tbh.

Any talk of Osborne going for the next leadership?

I actually think you've touched on it a bit there. It's easier to sway somebody who doesn't have an interest in politics through bombardment than somebody who does. Loads of people who don't have a real interest in politics vote, and loads of people who don't have a real interest in politics read news papers.

I live in St Helens, a Labour safe seat. I know a large number of working class people who I would say have been directly influenced by the right wing press to vote conservative. I don't usually use anecdotal evidence but I think it's quite important in this instance. People I work with who have previously voted labour cited Miliband 'stabbing his brother in the back' as a reason to vote Con, as well as the SNP fear. I do question whether those opinions would have been formed, or cemented, without a lot if help from the right wing press.

This, the press has a massive influence. I would wager the majority of people don't take an interest in politics day to day, they start having an opinion during the campaigns running up to an election. I certainly know loads of people like that. They're bound to be swayed with whoever comes up with the most persuasive campaign, regardless what they've done over the previous 5 years.

any views how the snp will go now the tories have complete power ?
the scots can huff and puff as much as they like but call me dave can just say, so what old bean, yes just put the kettle on and be a good thing woman, and they cant do a thing about it.
He has nothing to lose up there and everything to gain in England by standing up to them, or putting them in there place.

I've just got in and i'm pissed

I've just skim read the last 20 pages .

When this EU vote comes around i'll be voting out even though I think it would be a disaster if this [Poor language removed] hole of a country comes out of the EU but I'm going to do it anyway as pay back for putting the heartless bastards back in .

We get out of Europe & it's the end of what remains of worker's rights. If they had their way, unfettered by EU policy, the tories & ukip'd gladly introduce sweatshops here.

I warned against this sort of thing in the OP, regardless of political view.

I want an adult debate, not a slanging match. You could've argued your point rather than resort to name calling.

You will not be contributing further.

Bruce gonna be banned for constant childish wind-ups then?

You will if you continue this line. I see a difference, in a political thread where few agree, between a wind up and being downright nasty.

Please drop it, it has passed.

No good will come of reopening incident s that have happened, whether you think it's right or wrong.

@Seanjd @daylightrobber

Some of you are very pro mass immigration. Just out of curiosity, if we left the EU do you think we'd then have controlled immigration rather than mass immigration? And if so why?

lol so dramatic.

Interesting Australian study here. It makes the (admittedly obvious) point that you're more empathetic to people the more time you spend with them. Whilst the study is rooted in racial tones, it has much wider implications, be that migrants/natives, rich/poor or even Labour/Tories.

I suspect it's as bad for the north west to be so firmly Labour as it is the south-east to be so firmly Tory.

I agree but they get pregnant because the state then picks up the bill. If the state wasn't going to pick up the bill it would act as a deterrent and you wouldn't get so many single mothers and kids who then grow up in single parent families.

Ultimately it's bad for society to reward bad behaviour which is exactly what this is.

And it's not an investment in our future. Look at the statistics regarding children born to single parent families. They're shocking.

Now you might argue but what about the individual kids and here is where it gets difficult and why certain ideologies appear nasty because it obviously hurts them but society as a whole is better.

Women choose men based on two things. 1. Their sexual attractiveness, that's not just looks but the whole package and 2. Their ability to provide and willingness to stay around.

If you eliminate the need for reason 2. then women will choose exclusively 1.

You can see this if you go out to any night club and see the guys the girls pick to go home with. I'll give you a hint, it's not the stable hardworking decent men who they might not have the sexual chemistry with but whom would make good fathers and husbands.

This not only creates a burden on the state but also demotivates the men to want to be those stable hardworking men.

If you disagree then look at any ghetto or matriorical based society around the world. What you get is poverty and woman doing all the work and all the childcare.

You do realise that was a joke response right?!

The thing speaks for itself? Indeed, as does the fact you take the issue up with me rather than Bruce himself.

Leave it.

You don't mess with short blokes
