2015 post UK election discussion

Protests in London are unfortunately only the start I fear... I can't condone it, but then I understand the pure desperation too.

Predictably, one bloke spray paints something, and thousands of people are blamed so as to deflect from the issues that's caused these protests to occur.

I come from a shithole of a town that has been Labour since the days of Jesus, and I saw a lot of relative poverty, a lot of poor housing and a lot of antisocial behaviour. I also saw absolutely nothing done about it by the Labour government or the Labour council. The only time Labour seemed to care was local/general elections... funny that.

I quickly came to realise that the Labour party is a party that stands up for nobody but themselves. The poor are seen as nothing more than a guaranteed vote to many of them.

Now, I'm not saying the Tories are any better, on many issues I profoundly disagree with them.

My conclusion was Labour aren't the answer and neither are the Tories.
wherever you have socialist government that's what you get. There are some good individuals but the free market helps to prevent this cronyism.

How many other grown up nations in the world still use FPTP? Turnouts are going to get lower and lower if voters believe that their vote doesn't matter.
Turnout at this election was up on the turnout in 2005, despite there also being an increase in total number of people eligible to vote. The same was true in 2005 compared to 2001.

So you simply laugh at people scared to death of what's coming? Sound.

It depends.

Calm, normal and rational people who protest like civil and decent adults = no.

Middle class lefties who've suddenly decided that they don't like democracy because it didn't give them the result they liked = Yes. Every time, yes.

This is a very, very interesting post.

I can't say how much I'd need to be earning if I had a family with three children, because I don't have three children. I can say that as a very recently-married man my wife and I have talked about having children in the future, and we've agreed that we need to save up a bit more first. We live in the southeast and gross about £50k pa between us. Obviously the drop in income that comes when the wife goes on maternity leave is a major concern.
So it should be , Maternity pay is in the firing line.

So as not to play politics with every convo. I said it to Bruce and I'll say it again. If you spend too much time saving to have kids, you will never have kids. It doesn't matter how much money you have you will never have enough. Don't let the opportunity pass you by.

Hmm, I wouldn't say this happens with every socialist government.

As for the free market, that is also open to cronyism, as we have seen in the UK over the past 20 years.

Neither are perfect.
