2024/25 Relegation Thread

And gain what though? 5 months on the back of over spending in January to reach the dizzy heights of 10th? What if that doesn't work out and players don't fit and we get pulled into a relegation zone we can't get out of with a manager not a customed to it?

Friedkin has to do very little this season and a clean slate practically happens to him...

6 first team players are out of contract.
2 back up keepers out of contract.
4 first team loan players return to clubs
Dyche out of contract
Thelwell (I believe) out of contract.

He gets the keys and already has to find a manager, a DOF, and 10 new 1st team players.

There will be zero to little spent in January IMO with the above happening as they'll have a plan in place ready to go.
Finishing 10th could be worth up to £21m additional revenue but more than that we are putting the plan in place and setting the course to follow.

What would they be doing anyway? Setting the plan for Dyche to play every way that contravenes any plan, ethos or ideology... It makes no sense leaving him in place if you know he will be go at the end of the season.

How many times have we seen managers go in to a spiral because all the players know he is gone no matter what. Hopefully TFG have good business acumen rather than the "just get to BMD in the PL" shout and leave everything till the summer. I think they will have TBF...

That £21mill would cover part of what they'd have to spend in January, it's Peter to pay Paul. There's 10+ players leaving next season. Why uproot everything in the most expensive transfer window when availability is in short supply, just to get things in motion quicker?

IMO they won't spend a penny more until they're full in charge and feet under the table by the fact they know they'll have a clean slate for next season.

There's plenty of time in the summer if theyve got the plan and the targets in place. It should be literally when the whistle goes on the final game of the season, new man in get the ball rolling for pre season.

So they identify their number one target for a manager then hopefully more beyond that are acheivable now then when we get to the summer that shortlist needs to be screwed up because they`ve all gone elsewhere...

We will have to agree to disagree, for me it would be prudent for the club to be steered in the right direction with a new long term manager from the get go than limp to the summer under a dead man walking.

Dyche is gone in the summer. Whoever they want to replace him, they'll have signed/want to sign well before that.

To me it just doesn't make sense to change everything looking at "long term" when the first 5 months would be "stay in the league" and 10 players will be gone in the summer. So would be a waste of time implementing a system when half the squad is gone.

Picture changes entirely if we're lost in the bottom 3. But for now...there's definitely 3 worst teams than us.

Bournemouth only seemed to start playing in the last 5 mins. They were rubbish otherwise from what I could see. Maybe they're Dyche fit?
Shame about Leicester, but draws are ok I think

They did brilliantly considering they put so much into beating Spurs late on Thursday. Very quick turnaround and they couldn't rotate that much.

In a way that result is probably as bad for Ipswich in next few weeks as collapsing to Bournemouth was to this club in August but difference is we're far later into the season and Ipswich have messed up another big chance to win at home and eventually at this level you run out of opportunities.

Don't like this lottery tbf, costs too much nerves. We need to grab more points in the 2nd half surely to make this will happen a few games before the season ending like last season.

We will have 2 big mentality games in the last 5 games vs Ipswich and Southampton that will be bottom 4 teams by then.

Southampton will be long gone by then so they should be as demotivated as Sheffield United were last season for the final home game. My only worry for that is the final Goodison game emotions will totally overwhelm the players, can always remember RS losing their last match infront of the old Kop.

Ipswich will be a six pointer but good at least it's at home and they will probably have to come and win so will be space on the counter.

Loads of Football to be played before then of course.

Interesting table when you feel that Forest Fulham & Brighton are doing so much better than us. It may of course look significantly worse after the next 3 games.🫣

Starting so badly every season really puts the pressure on,

How do these teams like Brighton and United play us off the park yet they conceded 2 today in the last 5 mins and United get stuffed at home by Forest. Baffles me.
Because when we play them he sets us up to play for the 0-0 scoreline so when they inevitably score a goal we revert to kick and charge to try and get an equaliser.
