2024/25 Relegation Thread

‘there’s nothing to see here’?

Its a relegation thread.

You may need to revise your impressions.

‘But ultimately you get what you get’

‘Despite our many limitations’

‘I think it puts us ahead of the 4 teams at the bottom (hopefully)’

Did you read any of it? Its basically saying we are where we deserve to be and hopefully that’s better than the 4 teams below and you’ve read that as ‘nothing to see here’, Christ.

Lol you've got a track record of defending Dyche to the hilt.
You knew what that post was.

I remember when this fella was flavour of the month.

What he says here is inevitable.

Lopetegui saw what was about to happen there and got off.

You can't take a team on it's arse and gut it and expect to be anywhere other than the bottom.

We need to finally invest and spend in January.

They've been under performing well into last season

It’s not contrary to the narrative at all though is it? We play 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in our next 4 games and they play 19th, 16th, 13th and 11th. Then we’re at the half way point. So so far they’ve objectively had tougher fixtures than us. So you’re right, let’s very much see where we both are at the half way point. Personally I’m gulping at the prospect.

When it comes to Wolves, people have been banging on "yeah, they've had a tough run of games"

The point is we're coming close to half way in the season. We're 5 points clear of them, and a game in hand.

I expect them to get results from the next 2, but after that they have Man Utd, Spurs, Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool.

You say you're gulping at the prospect? Why? Pretty sure you said last month they'll be nowhere near the bottom anyway. If that's your view, forget them.

I think a lot of wolves fans were surprised they did ok last season. At the start they all thought they were going down

They think they're done for this season too - even if they did finish on 46 points and have some spend in the summer.

Quick look and it seems they have spent £100 - £150 million the last two seasons.

Referring to the below and why Lopetegui left. They've had to sell a lot;

And some of here would advocate for us to do exactly what Wolves have done. Gut the squad out and replace with young potential.

It doesn't always work out.

It can work - much less so when you're at the bottom already and a desperate seller/have to desperately sell to meet rules, and sign only players with potential.

Well I’m expecting them to be above us after the next 2 games despite us having a game in hand that we’ll lose against runaway leaders Liverpool. If we bullet this manager after our weekend defeat then I could see us getting a bounce result against Chelsea however.

I expect Wolves to sack O’Neil and be perfectly fine this season in the end. Whether we join them in that sanctity or not depends entirely on what we do with our own manager.

They need to sign a good centre half/sort their defence. Sean Dyche and Michael Keane would sort them...

Conceding nearly 40 goals in 15 games... Even 4 against us doesn't bode well.

Wolves score quite a few goals ( relative to their position/ performance) but their defence is pants. The worry for me is that Wolves bullet O'Neill and appoint Moyes who would sort their defence out and in short order make them safe and one less team we can finish above.

If we have inertia and leave Dyche in post I really fear for us.

So you're saying that the reason people traditionally look to tighten up defensively and go back to basics in order to grind their way to results, and why managers who are perceived to be too open and attacking with poor sides get more stick is actually not just a stylistic bias but is actually based on real life events and data? I AM SHOOK.

As he says, he took them from 39 points and they've done nothing but have to sell.

They're always going to be in a relegation scrap. Lopetegui didn't want to be left with the can.

They need results from their next 2 because, contrary to the narrative that they'd had hard games - we're reaching half way into the season and you play everyone twice. Check their fixtures after the next 2.
Right, I honestly thought they would be in relegation danger last season. They have now had to sell 5 key players in 2 seasons, and replace them with young players, some just future prospects. They basically had to gamble on some 18-21 year olds showing up, and if you dont hit on all of them good luck. Their team is a shell of what it was 2 years ago.

After amassing 48 points last season here we are trying to rationalise teams below us losing as a great result and hoping the points tally to stay up is as low as possible again. What’s happened here?
I think last season was a result of 3 'unexpected' results that we haven't yet repeated, I'm thinking of Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea at home that we got 3 points from

We also picked up away wins at west ham, Brentford and palace in 3 successive away games and not sure we'll repeat the same
