2024/25 Relegation Thread

This is a really big confidence swapping defeat for Palace today. It's a game they would have been looking to avoid defeat in.

You can bet your last dollar, they are still in the battle to avoid the drop.
It's not really that different to losing 4-0 to Man. United. It was all doom and gloom on here after but the response has been excellent with four points and two clean sheets.

Also look at the form after losing 6-0 to Chelsea, four wins from the next five.

I'd be amazed if Palace nosedived, for the first hour they weren't actually that bad. They'll finish above West Ham who are continuing to flatter to deceive and really aren't that good.

Let's just concentrate on doing enough to get away from Ipswich and Leicester thanks.

Didnt see the interview but i like him. Got them well away from relegation to league 2 in his first season...2nd promoted and 3rd promoted...

...last summer cobbled together a side but has been massively let down by Greaves being injured most of the time and Phillips being dreadful.

Done very well picking out Delap and Hutchinson. They try to play good attacking football but the players were never good enough.

I think he'd be ideal for us.

Didn't Brighton interview him in the summer before they appointed Huezler? He'll stay on their radar so that's a good shout actually, young up and coming manager who'll have a year of prem experience and worked in the North West before.

I've not felt nervous about relegation this season.

With Southampton and Ipswich not good enough and Wolves not closing the gap with an easier set of fixtures. Low 30's will secure safety and that is only four more wins and a handful of draws.

I don't want Dyche here, but we will hit that target even with Dyche in charge.

McKenna lets not forget came through at Spurs managing their youth, then the same role at United before becoming their assistant manager -- not wanting Ronaldo.

He's performed miracles at Ipswich and cobbled together a group for 2 successive promotions after saving them from relegation.

He's been caught out by Greaves being injured so often and Philips being dreadful.

Only 3pts off Everton with a far worse squad tells me that with our squad he'd have us mid table.

Could have been a contender to take over at United and rejected Chelsea i believe.

Should be our new manager with a career about to skyrocket.

Dyche potentially flatlining in comparison.

McKenna an interesting guy to keep an eye on.
I guess they were desperate but Phillips signing was poor judgement.

Given it's a home game Id say it was worse.

I'll be taking West Ham to be above them.

Chris Wilder has done a better job taking a team from league one to the premiership, kept them up, all playing with expansive overlapping centre backs.

No one would touch him with a barge pole here. But McKenna.......

He'd been a manager for 15-20 years prior. Worked his way up the leaderboard from Alfreton and Northampton and was with his boyhood club.

McKenna on the other hand could be the new young superstar manager?

He has shown that he is not a PL manager just yet Zat, maybe go back down to the Championship and get a few more years experience. He has been far too naïve at times in certain games and I'm not convinced he is ready, tactically they look very poor at times.

Have to admit, not really seen anything too much other than sticking to the 'same' way of playing every game.

He may well have been naive at times but i wonder if he's implemented his style and would be down anyway due to player quality--so is just trying to make his way the 'Ipswich way' so they come back up next year and their rollercoaster doesnt collapse?

Looking at their squad I suppose hes done well to keep them in with a chance at this point?

Wilder had a few more years and a lot more experience than McKenna. Ultimately McKenna has shown a degree of potential….its going to be about how he learns from these experience and adapts accordingly.

Exactly

Hutchinson, looks very light to me, struggling either with the psychically of the PL in my opinion.

Clearly a player with a lot of technical gifts but does seem to lack the physical side which looks to have held back a bigger impact.

Really? Mateta had a brilliant end to last season with 13 prem goals in last 13 games. Even better than what DCL was producing in Carloball. Slower start this season (after playing for France in Olympics) but still scored 7 this season.

Eze is easily the best attacker in the bottom half. I like Ndiaye but Eze is a level above and pretty much like Grealish was at Villa so surely he'll move on next summer.

Sarr hot and cold but in very good form currently. He also has pace which this club desperately needs.

I'm afraid there's only so far up a table workaholics like McNeill and Harrison can get you even if they have good games.

Eze's a good player but Sarr & Mateta havent hit the level expected from their youth potential.

I think as a far bigger club with a lot more potential at the moment we should be aimimg much higher.

The transfer window will be interesting as I expect they'll spend fairly big.

He's got until the end of this season to prove he's got the stones for a bigger job.

Interesting to see whether they or Brighton have the superior manager.

Age and experience a detriment now? They have similar records but because one is younger it's deemed "better". Just playing devil's advocate to look at it from another angle.

Personally think someone like McKenna would absolutely fold under the pressure of a club like ours.
