2024/25 Relegation Thread

Villa were a malfunctioned goal line tech decision away from being relegated.

Tbf, they got Emery and we got Carlo. If Real Madrid took Emery start of this season Villa may have struggled this season.

Football is often a game of good and bad fortune.

Newcastle got Saudi owners off the back of Russian sanctions as the Tories pushed through the takeover as they wanted a replacement for Russian gas.

We on the other hand got economically shafted by the Russian invasion.

WHU got a new 60k stadium paid for by the taxpayer, helping PSR, we on the other hand have had to foot the bill completely for our ground.

You have the Heysel europe ban etc.

Too many fans look at football through the lens of simple decision making but there is often greater things at play.
Aye, we're the balotelli of British football at the minute....
Why always us...

Looking at the games we won last season...

Brentford (A)
West Ham (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Nottingham Forest (A)
Chelsea (H)
Burnley (A)
Burnley (H)
Nottingham Forest (H)
Liverpool (H)
Brentford (H)
Sheffield United (H)

Realistically, how many of these are we going to win again if Burnley = Ipswich and Southampton = Sheffield United?

Being optimistic, I would only back us in 3 or 4 of those.
Nottingham Forest (H), Brentford (H), Sheffield United(Southampton) (H) and Burnley(Ipswich) (H)

If we carry on losing games like Bournemouth at home, it means we're going to have to start pulling rabbits out of hats in fixtures we're not favourites in.

On a more positive note (!). Here are a list of games we could / should be picking up points in that we f'd last season:

Fulham (H)
Wolves (H)
Sheffield United (A)
Luton Town (H)
Wolves (A)
Fulham (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Ham (H)
Bournemouth (A)

We got 3 points (!!) from this set of fixtures last season. You'd hope that we'd be looking for a drastic improvement this time around, but I wouldn't put my mortgage on it.

We do this every year, and it always ends up being a combination of winning games we’re not expected to, and losing games were expected to win. It’s just the way football works.

WHAT in gods name are you talking about?! Newcastle’s takeover got approved in October 2021, roughly 6 months before the Ukraine war started. Maybe you should get your facts right before you start pontificating, but then again why change the habit of a lifetime.

Watkins not performing, don't worry good old Everton will give you a nice platform to start your season Ollie mate, don't you worry about that.
Well afterall we did let someone score v us that had not for 2 and a half years, while another it was just under a year last saturday. We never fail to assist when they are desperate for a goal. We have more assists for the opposition than we do for our own players
