2024/25 Relegation Thread

Wolves have 6 points of their last 16 games. 1 win 3 draws.

Reminds of our winless run last season.

The thing with the premier league though is you can easily have those runs if you're playing top half regularly.

Villa actually only won 3 of their last 11 prem games last season and finished 4th comfortably, Spurs also had a poor run in but were still 5th.

I reckon if you look at Wolves last 16 games probably about 10 of them have been against top half.

Same when this club had a really poor run over January-March, many of the opposition were european challengers.

The key though is not to have a poor 5-6 game run when you don't beat anyone around you so that why the next two months up to the November international break are huge for this season's prospects and how tricky the task of staying up becomes. We saw that in Lampard's final two months when he was losing every week to likes of Wolves and Southampton.

It’s a Saturday morning sometime in the early 90s, you’ve been up most of the night yanking your joystick in frustration on this strangely-addictive game that’s blasting out of your 16-bit console.

The little ginger meff you’re controlling on this platform game is absolutely melting your head. You go left, he goes right. You mash the ‘A’ button to jump over a mushroom but he does a poorly-animated moonwalk instead.

You talked to your mates at school about the game all week, and they take the mick out of you. They call the ginger character a little prick. They think the game is ‘gay’ and you’re ‘gay’ for playing it.

I don’t condone that language, I’m merely using the vernacular of the time to paint a vivid picture.

You have a sudden realisation that this frustrating game is not only ruining your Saturday, it’s dominating your life. But for some reason, you can’t put it down. It has an allure that keeps you hooked for literally no apparent reason, added to the fact that it’s the only game you have and there’s no prospect of getting a new one until at least Christmas.

So you keep going. Still on level one, you’re about to finally rage-quit, but then your little ginger character receives a ‘power-up’ out of nowhere and is now fully-compliant and smashing the gaff up, launching crates at all and sundry, gobbling up gold coins and destroying all that lays before him. Those power-ups are fleeting though, so that subconscious misery never truly leaves you.

Ultimately I remain confident on the relegation question. We lookeda stronger side than Bournemouth and Leicester and competitive against an excellent Villa side.

Obviously, we have to start picking up points or all that is meaningless.
