Think the 2 biggest factors in us having a decent season (as in far better than this one) next season will be injuries, and our ability to defend crosses/set pieces.

If we fare better with our injuries then that will give us a far better chance than we've had this season, but for me, preventing the ridiculous set piece goals we concede is even more important. I reckon an improvement in both areas this season would have been worth at least 10 more points and that would have had us with 49 points and 11th place.

We have a crap team, can’t win away from home, have no midfield, Michael Keane in defence, no money to spend, that smells of relegation all day long to me.

The recruitment team are really gonna have to outsmart a lot of teams to get us even competitive.

Based on what we have now, can’t see anything but a relegation battle.

But there's going to be a lot of ins and outs. I think we will be lower mid table its a rebuild. Unless we get extremely lucky and every signing comes off and Richy stays we could be in the top ten like West Ham rebounded when they nearly went down a few years bacm but I don't expect that at all...

It depends if we manage to sign good CBs. If we don't, I think we will be in relegation fight again. So, based on the current squad, I would say relegation fight because we will keep leaking goals.

If we manage to sign good CBs and CMs, I think we may be mid table hopefully. And this is if Richy stays. But the key is both midfield and defence upgrades.

Haha haven’t you all been following this club? We do things by halves and always have done. We mostly play one bad half and one good half, but this season was all bad so next season = all good.

Top 4 nailed on.

Really difficult to predict league placings this early.
With this current squad and Lampard in charge we would finish approximately the same or a position or so higher.
Like most others I’m hoping for a bit of a clear out and some clever wheeling and dealing and would happily accept a boring mid table finish.

to be fair I was quite close

Benitez sacked less than a month after Christmas
Koeman was sacked before Christmas

however Big Dunc did not become Real Madrid manager unfortunately

I find this very difficult. It is possible we shall lose 3 key players, DCL, Richie and Pickford. The big question is how can we replace them and who could it be.

The squad we have presently isn't good enough to stay in the Premiership next year. Given that we will probably lose one or two of our better players, I am talking about DCL, Richy or Pickford. Delph and Mina will probably go as they are not value for money given their injury records but when they do play they make the team better. Allan possibly another on to go.
Given what we have left I cannot see us surviving a relegation battle again. So our hopes are pinned on bringing in new players, we don't seem to have any spending power so that limits us severely, we have been exactly shrewd when it comes to the transfer market lately, so the picture looks fairly bleak.
However if we can somehow start learning from our past mistakes and allow the manager and DoF to do their jobs without interference from the Board or owner then I am hopeful that next season we can aspire to the dizzying heights of mid-table obscurity. Do that and then don't sack the manager because we are not in Europe, who knows we might start on the road back.
