4 players from our history to transform the team?

Tough one this. Could do with more pace throughout the side so Ratcliffe, Stevens, Lescott, Distin, Kanchelskis and Lineker would all be good additions. We also need more players with a leader's mentality and fight. Ratcliffe again, Labone, Reid, Gray, Speed, Rooney, Cahill. We need skill and creativity - Ball, Steven, Sheedy, Heath, Arteta, Baines, Pienaar, Rooney. Goalscorers - Dean, Lineker, Steven, Kanchelskis, Rooney, Cahill, Lukaku. So overall I think I'd have to go with Ratcliffe, Kanchelskis, Rooney, Lineker for a mix of pace, power, leadership and goals. Baines, Steven or Sheedy whipping balls in for Dunc, Cahill or Andy Gray would also be good, or Arteta, Pienaar or Rodriguez slotting balls through to Lineker, Lukaku or Rooney. We've had some damn fine players. Current crop (Pickford and Coleman aside) wouldn't deserve to be in a team with any of them though.

Wasn't a popular signing at the time, and he ended up playing some of the best footy of his career with us, great signing.
Barry also seemed to be the last of a dying breed of player who had the ability to put a ‘reducer’ tackle in (sorry for quoting big Ron) and stay on that yellow card while playing the same way for the whole game. He was an exceptional player, tough but also very skilful. I think we tried the same tact with Delph but he wasn’t in the same professional mould at all which was a pity.

Signings like Barry, Nigel Martyn and David Weir were brilliant pieces of business (Louis Saha almost was too) great pros that raise the standard of everyone around them. How we need these sort of players now….

Gareth Barry
Arteta
Yakubu
Bainaar
4 is too difficult. These would dramatically improve us and had more influence than for example Rooney did.

Reserves would be Cahill, Donovan, Rooney, Lescott, Lukaku, Gravesen, Kanchelskis.

Yeah I totally agree with that. We needed the combination of players. They also tried that with Coady & Tarkowski, and maybe Seamus should have been, but the other transfers were so random and stupid that nothing worked out.

Why do people forget that Wayne Rooney was not a striker? He was an attacking midfield player who scored lots of goals while running the game. Best UK player in my lifetime (1959) by a mile. He could be a forward when required but behind that line was his best.
I remember his first Euro game with a fantastic MU team. He got three and every player on the pitch looked pedestrian in comparison.
Kane beating his record is good, but Kane never controlled a game in his life.
His display against France was sublime.

I think he made a really good choice to move to and stay at Man U
at the time, Alex Ferguson was probably the best person to manage him

Tough one. Who do you pick. So here goes with my selection.
B. Labone , in place of M. Keane. No contest.
A. Ball , in place of , well take your pick.
D. Thomas , imagine this guy crossing for DCL , and for my next selection.
Dixie Dean, would love to see how this guy would perform in the modern game. IMO a top footballer , is a top footballer , in any era.

But of course , you can make cases for many players.
How about .
M.Lyon’s. M. Dobson, J. Morrissey and B. Latchford.
D. Mountfield, P.Reid, C.Harvey, The golden vision.
K.Ratcliffe, H. Kendall,T, Cahill, J.Royle.
The list is endless. But I’ll stick with my first selection.
