6 + 2 Point Deductions

I wonder when the independent regulator comes in, which it will, whether they can investigate the Premier League for corruption?

Seems that the Premier League have been doing everything to try and prevent it. Be very interesting what they’d find.
Having slept on it. I think they hit the panic button with the government wanting to intervene. Regardless of political stance and who is isn't in power at the time that is the last thing you'd ever want.

Corruption is a very strong word without evidence. Definitely the odd back hander here and there is going on 100% it has to that's the model football is. Deals upon deals upon deals. how far that goes and how deep is another matter. If my statement is correct then they could find themselves open to further investigation. Or again it'll be a back hander.

As with all things Everton our timing is impeccable 😂😂

I don’t know if the NFL is the same but I can’t take most yank sports seriously (and I love the NBA) since you can’t get relegated and teams purposely throw whole seasons to get a better draft. Madness. Imagine doing that in footie.

Think it's pretty much the same setup by the looks of it.

The only bad taste for me is the moving of clubs to new cities.

The fury over this will die down and we'll be slogging through games that don't go for us and the morale will be shattered.

We'll lose our way in January/February with injury and the pressure of it all.

Are people actually arguing here we'd have got 48/50 points this season - which is what we;ll have to do now.

No chance.
Are you suggesting we need a Zelenskiy type figure to keep a plucky underdog fighting against a corrupt power that thinks it can ride roughshod over anything it has power over?

I like your thinking!

you don't have to look hard to see we are not getting relegated. All we have to do is win one game more than Sheffield and Luton do. Given that we have already won more games than both of them put together, I honestly don't see how anyone (apart from the obvious wum) can think we will get relegated.
This is bordering on complacency. What you have posted is correct - but it describes what happened when we had no key injuries. We are an injury to DCL and Tarkowski or Branthwaite away from grave peril. If we lose DCL again - which sensible people would bet on - then our advantage over the promoted clubs shrinks. Throw in only one of them going on an unexpected run, and the alarm bells will ring loud - because realistically it's any three from four now (us and the promoted clubs).

Another point to remember: we go to Burnley in December. If we don't win at Turf Moor, we will have played all three promoted clubs in the league this season - and failed to win any of those matches. There's going to be an awful lot riding on that match, especially as there might not be too many points for us over the upcoming run of United, Forest, Newcastle, and Chelsea.

We may not get relegated - but there are plausible paths to relegation for us and we have a huge fight on our hands now against three squads who have just been given a precious lifeline and route to possible survival. Complacency is our biggest enemy.

I’m just thinking they will have uncomfortable questions to answer like how they u turned and allowed Newcastle’s takeover to go through etc.

Why did they try and fast track ours and not city's honestly it's a farce
read today it was because ours was last season, they want it done in a by a certain time, because city’s goes back years there’s a lot more to investigate and there having problems even getting the documents off city to look at , every way you look at it it stinks

Woke up this morning still not fussed by the points deduction. Reckon it could have been 15 points and we'd still be fine this season, the promoted 3 are just that poor.

As long as the same approach is applied to City and Chelsea I'm fine with it. Seeing those two relegated will drag us back up the ladder by the same number of places this points deduction will cost us.in prize money stakes anyway.

The upcoming compensation claim is a good deal more alarming. It would be nice to know just how alarming so we can stop losing unnecessary sleep over that and plan for next season.

We're one game from safety having played the opening 4-5 games without DCL, Beto, Harrison and Maupay leading the line.

Of course they can't be complacent though.

Two things in the cold light off the morning.

  • Firstly despite some doom sayers the footballing situation as it stands is that we have in effect a 26 game season to match (+2 points) three very poor teams. Even accounting for a disastrous start we look a nailed on mid-table performer this season so strong favourites to win the mini league of 4 teams, and I would even say catch another 1 or 2 above that.
  • Secondly our appeal should focus on 3 things; firstly the entirely unreasonable views taken by the panel on some of our mitigation points - whatever formula is used to decide the number it is by getting the mitigation accepted that will lead to it being reduced; secondly the pretty oxymoronic view of the panel that no sporting advantage was gained but a sporting penalty is the only appropriate one; and thirdly attack the line that a rich owner cannot be fined as a punishment as it has no effect - virtually every other offence is dealt with by club fines from pitch invasions to failing to control player behaviour to racism.
I am not a lawyer but even to a lay person the report has several legally non-sensical passages, and no justification as to why the harshest penalty in PL history has been awarded.

Good post mate

FWIW I don't think we will get relegated.
Fact is though that the PL HAVE punished the fans by determining that we will AGAIN be at least involved in a nerve wracking relegation battle for the 3rd season running.
Just when I, like most of us, was looking forward to a relaxed seasons end.

Any chance that I could sue them if my blood pressure spikes???

I've followed the NFL more over recent years as even though it's America's sport it is the most socialist league in the world.

All teams have the same salary cap. Sponsorship and merchandise sales are divided up and given equally across the teams.

The Draft system gives the worst teams in the league the perfect chance for them to improve straight away.

While the Premier league is the capitalist greed league.

Me too. It's a much better organisation and sport. I don't watch the CL anymore and didn't watch the World Cup for the first time in my life last year. It's getting worse and worse with absolutely no end in sight
