6 + 2 Point Deductions

Two things in the cold light off the morning.

  • Firstly despite some doom sayers the footballing situation as it stands is that we have in effect a 26 game season to match (+2 points) three very poor teams. Even accounting for a disastrous start we look a nailed on mid-table performer this season so strong favourites to win the mini league of 4 teams, and I would even say catch another 1 or 2 above that.
  • Secondly our appeal should focus on 3 things; firstly the entirely unreasonable views taken by the panel on some of our mitigation points - whatever formula is used to decide the number it is by getting the mitigation accepted that will lead to it being reduced; secondly the pretty oxymoronic view of the panel that no sporting advantage was gained but a sporting penalty is the only appropriate one; and thirdly attack the line that a rich owner cannot be fined as a punishment as it has no effect - virtually every other offence is dealt with by club fines from pitch invasions to failing to control player behaviour to racism.
I am not a lawyer but even to a lay person the report has several legally non-sensical passages, and no justification as to why the harshest penalty in PL history has been awarded.
It was a kangaroo court with all the "independence" of Belarus.

The outcome was deliberate.

Woke up this morning still not fussed by the points deduction. Reckon it could have been 15 points and we'd still be fine this season, the promoted 3 are just that poor.

As long as the same approach is applied to City and Chelsea I'm fine with it. Seeing those two relegated will drag us back up the ladder by the same number of places this points deduction will cost us.in prize money stakes anyway.

The upcoming compensation claim is a good deal more alarming. It would be nice to know just how alarming so we can stop losing unnecessary sleep over that and plan for next season.

No lad that punishment far outweighs the crime, its a joke, considering what the big 6 got away with no way that is fair. One charge, that they made up a points deduction up. The mitigating circumstances were in no way taken into account in my view. And it leaves us wide open to litigation from the small club ambulance chasers. Corruption written all over it.

Not trawled through this thread but my take is we’ll have agreed this behind closed doors, there will be an appeal and it will get reduced. Better it happens this year when we have [Poor language removed] teams in the bottom 3 and we look alright. My bigger concern is that we get sued (if it’s legally possible) by the relegated clubs and we have to go into admin. It’s a much more attractive / easy deal for a 777 if we are in admin as they can wash the balance sheet and go again.

I think I am just as worried about the compensation we might have to pay. There is precedent, West Ham had to pay Sheff U for the Tevez scenario. We have an owner who has checked out, trying to sell to a group of conmen who probably don’t have the money, how are we going to foot a multi million pound bill?

They say FFP is to help clubs financially, all the while they are crippling us financially

It isn’t legally possible.

Had a good nights sleep, a really good week and I am still very angry at this. What a joke. We are in massive trouble thanks to the jankiest legal decision i have seen in ages, and sports related arbitration is usually always a clown circus. Even for that standard this is heinous.

I just sincerely hope our team can respond to this garbage in a positive way. Not hard to imagine heads sinking and players folding over this.

Would we have to pay compensation immediately or could we stall them?

Yes we are only 1 win away from being back out of the relegation zone but its a massive kick in the balls to the players and management.

Easy to say "a couple of wins and we'll be alright" but now it's massive pressure back on the players, massive pressure on Dyche to galvanise the players, massive pressure on recruiting in January "I don't think I'll risk signing for Everton now as they are relegation candidates".

It's another mental slog and won't be easy for the players to just shrug off. 10 points is a huge number to try and claw back, needing to find big wins because basically we're in mid November and on 4 points. Ideally coming up to NYE you want to be around the 20 point barrier.

It's such a negative impact to the club, potential investment or signings, players mindset as they're now in another scrap after the first time in ages finally being able to look up and think 1 more win could get us in the top half of the table.

It's absolutely scandalous. I've written to the PL and Masters as well @Mikey_Fitzgerald but mine contained about 200 more swear words than your more considered approach lol
Tell em to koff from me as well.
