6 + 2 Point Deductions

If the goal was a level playing field and competitiveness then there’s a whole raft of things that could be done, it’s far easier to nail individual clubs to the cross than admit that the rules are not intended to create competition at all.

The league is set up for Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea to dominate. They dont want City or Newcastle in the elite.

Richard Masters needs to resign. Clubs are struggling to attract legitimate sponsorship deals, few interested buyers in clubs like Man Utd, Spurs & Everton because of all the stringent rules.

If everyone had the same budget to spend then clubs would thrive as there would be a greater emphasis on investing in infrastructure, the academy and recruitment rather than finding cheap ways to avoid rules like selling hotels and cooking the accounts.

City have spent a lot of cash but they have created a well oiled machine off the field.

The current rules just strangle any competition / ambition.

Those are the clubs who interviewed Masters for his job, so of course he’s following their agenda and targeting their competitors.

I'm surprised we are agreeing with it now.

If Usmanov was here our fans would be behind City, he was trying to do what they do.
Yeah I don’t really get why we’d make this our fight. The days of Uncle Alisher paying way above the odds for his name on the training ground are gone and the prospect of state ownership seems somewhat remote so this fair market value stuff isn’t really our issue. The only thing I can think of is the prospect of multi-club ownership, maybe the market value stuff is relevant there?

Unless of course there is an interested bidder ‘waiting in the wings’ with deep pockets which is doubtful

Yeah that would be lovely but I fear if anyone had state level wealth and a determination to buy Everton they could’ve easily done it by now. I guess maybe though those rules do discourage massive wealth from investing as it limits what they can do and so maybe limit our options.

We have an absentee landlord so our vote means nothing.

Key word is "expected" which is probably the media being mischievous.

I hope we do though, would hopefully open up the door for gulf state investment into the club who likely are put off by the current rules.

Would be peak Everton luck to end up with some crackpot US owner, then City win their legal case down the line and someone like West Ham or Spurs end up with Qatari owners - right place right time.

Yeah, just side with some allies so we can get behind a new set of rules that are actually designed to promote competition

Wait, so the rules are set up for Man Utd to dominate yet no one wants to buy Man Utd because of the rules?

Liverpool and Arsenal have won one title between them in 20 years, it can't be that well set up. Although the American owners clearly band together in the boardroom.

Masters is out of his depth but the wild west approach by Scudamore and co has led us here. Abramavich and Monsour have only made it harder for other clubs to compete, unless they get an oil state of their own and then it takes billions just to try and catch up (Everton tried and spectacularly failed when the Uzi money was flowing). None of this has been good for the game.

Any Evertonian cheering this news just wants some gulf state to come in and take over, give the stadium some dodgy name for $500m and buy success.
I had huge problems with Kenwright, and clearly Usmanov and Moshiri screwed up with money but backing City and their model is about the most un Everton thing I can think of.

That said.
Backing the billionaire model while we dont have a pot to pee in is about the most Everton thing ever!

City want to just blow everyone out the water. Look how they've dominated with financial constraints. In theory if they could spend unlimited money then nobody else would have a chance anyway. ABU Dhabi just want them to win at all costs, it's just the reality of state ownership.

Everton shouldn't be backing the plutocratic Abu Dhabi backed City and Saudi Arabia backed Newcastle. Nor should we be backing the likes of United, Arsenal and Liverpool either.

We should fight for genuine financial distribution (i.e. everyone has the same budget limit every season) and getting a 14 majority to pass on something like that. Failing that look at Germany. That might be set up for Bayern to dominate but the fans have a huge say and a well run club and good management can lead to success as Leverkusen have shown or Dortmund in another CL final.
