7th Place - Yes or No

Do you want Everton to finish 7th and go to the Europa Conference League?

I'm all for it. There's going to be some decent sides in this competition and despite the arrogant opinions from some of our fans we'll be far from the favourites to win it. We haven't won a trophy since 1995 and we've only played in Europe a handful of games during that times (and of those handful of times we've only two good runs) so lets be clear, we're in absolutely no position whatsoever to be sneering at this cup even if it is basically the league cup of European football. The chance of winning any trophy can't be sniffed anymore.

Funny how the Europa League is seen as a much more prestigious option now it's a middle-tier competition rather than the lowest rung.

I reckon if there was another European competition below this one, all of a sudden the Conference would be seen in a different light.

Did a bit of research as to who could potentially be playing in this thing and being involved in the Playoff Round. So potentially Villareal (if they don't win the UEL), Monchengladbach, Roma, Marseille, Anderlecht, Feyenoord, Trabzonspor, Rubin Kazan to name a few. And then teams who fail in UEL PO round could be Lokomotiv Moscow, Standard Liege, Fenerbahce. So really the competition is much of being Europa League standard. Based on the countries likely to be visiting there probably won't be too much travelling tbf, unless unlucky and get drawn to Kazak, Israeli and Cypriot sides!
Only got as far as Israel to see who would qualify before my brain melted.

Thanks for doing that. Looks better than I thought. Of course I’d still prefer Europa league.

While a higher placing would be preferable we need to be looking to build the squad to be ready for the end stages of European competition. The best way IMO is to attract a better, more ambitious player. Having the option of playing in Europe, regardless of the level with improve the teams status and of course coefficient.

let's just stay in 8th forever then eh

I honestly just don't understand the debate at all. Not wanting us to come 7th basically involves actively wanting us to lose games. It's a bizarre mindset that I don't think i'll ever be able to reconcile in my head.
Love a Euro trip. That pic in your Avatar was Lille away? When the police gassed us all?

I guess you have to say yes despite the very real threat that it will pose to our domestic league performance. We won't get away with playing a second string though, even in that Conference League. The idea that we would win it with our eyes closed is wishful and delusionsal thinking. We are far more likely to be knocked out of the competition than win it.

I really don't care, I would happily go anywhere in the world to watch Everton.

I think in it's inaugural season, it would be great to just go out and win it.

Looking at Spain, Italy and Germany, we'd be playing Villareal, Roma and Monchengladbach in it next year. They all wouldn't look out of place in the Champions League most years, never mind the Europa League.

The higher up the table as possible please, if that means this competition then we have finished high enough to reach it, if not then we have had a poor season as no European football is not what our targets were.

For me, its an over-complication from UEFA but it is what it is.

I don't buy the argument that this competition is somehow beneath us, when you look at the sheer paucity of the number of European games we have had in 30 years. We are a non-entity on the European stage. Does competing in this help? Well, not particularly IMO, but I'd certainly take being in a final and winning it, not that I'd expect the latter stages of this to be easy.

It would be good for the squad to be tested against European opposition, and we need to be able to cope with European games midweek if we are to have any hope of progressing on a broader basis.

It's a cop-out to say our league form would automatically suffer having to juggle the extra games. We might as well give in if that's the case.

It would mark some tangible achievement for Carlo in his first full season. That's important I think. Progress in small steps.

It is an also opportunity for silverware so for me we take it seriously if we are in this.
