Remember the S*n had him as'shagger' of the year a few times. He was lauded as a master 'swordsman' .
There's an insidious culture propped up by the media and promoted by the media (run by old white men mainly) that only reacts when it has to.
I still feel uncomfortable about this 'trial by media' method, surely these 'investigative journalists' should guide the 'victims' toward the justice system? Having the 'evidence' paraded across TV and print makes it prejudicial surely and gives a 'way out', or is that deliberate to hide other goings on ensuring the spotlight remains on this case and nobody looks under any other rocks.

Unfortunately the amount of rape cases that end up in court or people charged is 3% for the UK.

Something needs to change in the legal system.

There absolutely needs to be more resources aimed at police, medical support, prosecuting authorities and prisons. However the big problem we as a society have to overcome is that a depressingly large majority of people (and therefore most juries) think that rape involves some masked horror grabbing a woman off the street, or breaking into her house unannounced and sexually assaulting her.

They'll convict that sort of thing most days of the week, but of course most rapes are not like that (where the attacker is a stranger) and often boil down to whether they believe him or her. In a system where a jury has to believe someone is guilty beyond all reasonable doubt we really shouldn't be surprised that the conviction rate is as low as it is.

Of course, that's a part of the culture.
It has to be broken early on, and there has been advancement through schools and other agencies, unfortunately there's so much to be done under the banner of 'equality' that, individually, each of these 'cultures' (sexism, racism, homphobia etc) get shouted down as 'woke' and seen as weakness. Weakness against what? The very structured society that breeds bigotry and inequality and class as the status quo.
We'd rather have a self serving bumbling buffoon than a man who wants to give uou free broadband.
We'd rather have turds floating down the rivers than nationalising the water system. And we'd rather leave the institutions in place (like the Met for instance) than challenge their culture of making it difficult for women and girls to come forward and bringing these debauched bellends to book.

Former colleague used to do outreach and engagement work in schools around 'rape myths', inappropriate behaviour, setting etc. All good sensible stuff. I believe some parents were quite unhappy about it.

I've also worked on initiatives to identify and manage cases of DVA in health settings. They work, at least at identification and initial support, but quite often cases don't end up going to court or to the police. Sometimes fear, sometimes trying to protect children, some hope they can 'change' the perpetrator. Also got a mate in the CPS who reckons cases often fall apart for not dissimilar reasons.

It's an unfortunately tough nut to crack.

TBF I do wonder a lot whether it would be better to bin off some of the modernity / equality and raise boys to have a more chivalric view of things, at least in terms of encouraging the protection of others (especially women and girls) when that needs to happen.

Yes, it comes with problematic issues itself but there were more than a few times in that programme yesterday (and the accompanying Times article) that one was left wondering why the men who obviously knew something bad was going on didn't put a stop to it in the traditional manner.
