There isn’t even a court case yet so how can discussing it be contempt of court? Should nobody publish anything that might come to court?

Meanwhile Brand can talk however much he likes about how it is all a witch-hunt.

So not only is the establishment out to get Brand by nit silencing him at all, they're also persecuting him by stopping his accusrs from speaking out.

Or you could read that statement that he's likely to have a court summons soon and there's a need to stop any prejudice against Brand so the trial can be fair.

reading the advice, it isnt saying you cant discuss it, it is advising about publishing anything that may prejudice a trial. They are quite different things.

Someone can say that in their opinion he is a sex pest etc, what is being advised against is stuff like publishing a screen shot of any admissions of guilt/remorse/poor behaviour from an individual who may later go on trial for that matter,

But my understanding was that restrictions of that sort only kicked in once an arrest was made, which there has yet to be.

And meanwhile Braverman is making comments about an active murder case?

Only one of me lid. You’ll be glad to know 🤣

Didn’t Russell Brand use to be a darling of the left? Guardian columnist, none traditional male etc.
Can you find us any examples of any of these representatives of the left holding him up as one?

Ok he used to work for the Guardian? So what.

Surely if you keep repeating this point you just have something more solid than that.

you're right that the contempt legislation does kick in once the process becomes official but a trial can be prejudiced at any time, if you were defending someone you'd def use any pre trial kerfuffles to assist your client if you could.

Re reading the journos' notes, they rightly point out that there is no process as yet to prejudice, therefore the journo cannot be held in contempt, but once a trial does get underway, a defence team may say the trial process has been prejudiced and a fair trial is not possible. (ie the trial process is frustrated but no individual can be held to be in contempt).

I'm no lawyer but thats my take

I presume the defendants lawyers would use anything they could but not sure why the AG is stepping in to say it - apparently very unusual and reflects a very outdated position.

Is the AG saying that for instance the Times should not do further reporting on the accusers it has already published? Or the new ones that have stepped forward in that reporting? Obviously the journalists need to be very careful about defamation, and had an army of lawyers to check things before printing to avoid it, but this warning seems to go above and beyond that issue.

Does this warning just apply to Brand (no such warning issued with Philip Schofield for instance)? Or sexual abuse cases in general? Or any crime reporting?
