Aaron Lennon ( On Loan January 2015 )

How much would you pay for Lennon in the Summer

  • Up to the rumoured 6 or 7 million - worth every penny

  • No more than 5 million - he's OK, but not worth any more

  • No more than 3 million - he's got no end product ffs

  • Wouldn't take him on a free, he's badly gash

  • Stop asking me questions and stick the grill on

He's exactly what we need right now, a pacey direct goal threat.

But he's 27 and doesn't have all that much end product, and I'll be pretty angry if we buy him permanently. He needs to come in and do a job till the end of the year, but then both him and McGeady need to go elsewhere.

Neither is on the same level as Kev and if we're looking to progress then our wingers need to be.

The scenario I worry about is Kev going and our first choice wingers being McGeady and Lennon, no resale value and a lot of frustrating viewing.

I agree about the loan, it’s a better idea to cover this season. In the Summer though we’ll have the new TV money and potentially some cash to spend on players, so I’d rather we used the 7m and spent it more wisely. Besic has showed there are decent deals out there if you look hard enough. Like you say a Deulofeu or the like.

In terms of pace, Giggs sort of re-invented himself as he got older and was no longer the flying winger he was in his hey-day. He was also a million times better than Lennon has ever been and always had an end product.

Ronaldo is a beast, and you can’t really compare the athletic ability of Ronaldo against Lennon. Even if Ronaldo wasn’t quick, he’s incredibly strong and a big lad.

I’m thinking more like Michael Owen, Andy Johnson, Shaun Wright-Phillips etc. Small lads who rely totally on pace. Unless they change their game completely, they tend to fall away before they hit 30. Once the pace goes (maybe after an injury or two), they’ve never had the physical strength to get them past people, so they no longer have the same affect on the game. Obviously there may be exceptions to this.

Yes I think that is very fair. Players who rely upon physical attributes are more effected than players who don't. However I do think it's possible for speed merchants to develop other skills and still be effective. In some ways Peinaar has done this.

A loan is a decent option for us. I would love Deulofeu but I he would cost anywhere from 12-20 million I think (possibly more). Lennon will be between 1/2 to 1/3 that price.

There's so much wrong here I don't where to start.

Lennon is quicker than McGeady, McGeady can cross & beat a man although he doesn't do it nearly enough as he should do.

They both are excellent at defending but McGeady can shoot a lot better.

There's been a few high profile misses, like Sat and vs Wolfsberg but if you want to question whether he can shoot, see the goals vs Leicester and for Ireland in August, Lennnon's never finished like that in his life.

I believe McGeady to be the superior defender, but the main point is beating a man and getting a ball in. Lennon is worse than my mar at this, and she's not great herself to be fair. McGeady's actually alright, we've scored a few from it. And Lennon isn't that much quicker than McGeady at all, he's also rapid. And yes, McGeady has had a few fantastic finishes, but he always tries to shape whatever chance he is presented with inot the same, curling shot, which is only appropriate 20% of the time.

I wouldn't mind us signing Lennon on a perm if the few was low and McGeady was sold.

Provided we keep Mirallas and sign a first 11 winger (Konoplyanka or whoever we're linked with these days) that would do me.

I personally think Pienaar is finished as well. We should not be buying players from Spurs anymore.

I agree a loan is good for us and in that regard I'm happy for the additional option, I just hope we don't make it permanent.

With Deulofeu, unless he has a good end to the season I don't think they can seriously command that sort of fee. I think any deal would have to be loaded on appearances etc. But even if say he was 12m and we had it and Lennon is 7m. You'll never see that 7m again, if Deulofeu or a.n. other was 12m and at 21 has a few good seasons, you could sell on for around the same price or more in the future.

Another thing is that because (other than Mirallas) our wide players are now pretty much useless and others playing out of position there haven't performed people will overrate Lennon...

I don't mind having a 'tricky winger' and also a 'fast direct winger' when it's Limpar and Kanchelskis quality, not the McGeady, Lennon combo.

If you put his hair where his beard should be, then he'd look like Taaj from Come Fly with Me.
