Aaron Lennon ( On Loan January 2015 )

How much would you pay for Lennon in the Summer

  • Up to the rumoured 6 or 7 million - worth every penny

  • No more than 5 million - he's OK, but not worth any more

  • No more than 3 million - he's got no end product ffs

  • Wouldn't take him on a free, he's badly gash

  • Stop asking me questions and stick the grill on

5 million I wouldn't. At 28, we know what he provides with little scope for improvement. I would prefer to let him, Atsu and #7 go and sign a gun for at least double that.
I think kev will go and atsu back to Chelsea.
Mcgeady I hope goes.
So for me I would bring in a quality winger, lennon and get a loanee in

don't think we can afford all 3 if spending 5 mill on Lennon...hence my original point to send him back
Get Gerry on loan then buy the other 2.
We have a hell of a lot of sky money coming in and I would expect a couple leaving who would fetch big bucks

Deulofeu needs a permanent home for his own good. No loan. A quality established winger and Deulofeu would be our budget for wingers. If Mirallas goes then that changes things.

we will have less sky money than last year due to our league placing. I just cant see us having too much money to spend this summer

I think £6m that has been quoted for Lennon sounds decent in todays market. I suppose it depends on who else is available, if we can get Ayew on a free, sign Yarmolenko and Lennon. Keep McGeady and probably sell Pienaar and Mirallas, that should give us enough cover out wide.

Ideally I would prefer to sell McGeady and keep Mirallas, but I think Mirallas will go regardless

Don't get the preoccupation with Deulofeu, Martinez has already highlighted the problems the kid has. The lad has had an awful season at Seville and the fact that the Barcelona manger won't have anything to do with him doesn't sound good. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. Let's not forget he was on the bench for most of his games at Everton, yes he scored a few goals but he has an ego the size of a death star and zero work rate defensively . I take Lennon and save 4/5 mill.

Still undecided on Lennon. A few good games on the spin doesn't suddenly mean he's been a great success and is worth buying permanently, specially for £6m which is a good-sized fee for us. Even if he does impress and proves he's worth it, I get the impression he still wants to force his way back in at Spurs.

Works his cock off, has little quality
If the quality comes the more he plays then its an easy yes, sign him. If it doesnt id be tempted to say thanks but no thanks

Apparently Spurs want rid of him so 3 or 4 million or they can do one and only if his a squad rotation player! Would rather risk some of the younger players than pay over the odds for him :-) If we're signing players we need top quality that have done something or young with huge potential :-) Spurs screwed us over for Pienaar when we sold him to them and when he returned to us, McGeady is scottish football level :-(, Mirallas has been the scape goat since jan but our only good winger!

Deulofeu's work rate wasn't too bad.

The big issue I had was that he is a bit greedy but he's 21 and if he was available we would be absolutely mad not to take him.

The problem with Lennon is that at 28 next year he would have no resale value plus he would likely want a 4 year deal which would take him up to 32, even 3 years is 31. We essentially would be paying 6m and reasonably big wages for 4 years for realistically 2 years before he starts to drop in performances.

I know that's a bit harsh but given all our older players and seeing them their performances and injuries it's something to take into consideration.

That said if we could get 3m-4m for McGeady then I would take Lennon back as long as it didn't cost us more than a net 2m-3m. I want to us to buy two young (21 year old) wingers/forwards so having someone with Lennon's experience would be vital as the other option and McGeady isn't good enough.

btw - I'm assuming Mirallas will be sold.

Would people be happy with something like 10 mil plus Lennon for Miralles.

Personally wouldnt mind it as long as another high profile winger came in as a direct replacement for Kev aswell

Anyone else think Lennon could be even more effective on the left? Lennon and Coleman are our two fastest players, but when they're on the same side only one will really get the chance to get up to speed. We haven't played with an actual left footed winger all season, and Lennon can't cross anyway so we're not losing much by playing him on the left. Plus he'll be far more dangerous cutting inside at pace because he'll be on his stronger foot. Osman and Baines are both more creative types than Lennon and Coleman, so having one blistering fast player and one more creative player on each side could bring balance to our attack.

I know typically Baines has benefited from having a Pienaar/Osman type in front of him, someone who can play well-timed pass to let Baines run behind the defense, but I think that Lennon's pace and the threat of him cutting inside could have a similar effect.
