Confirmed Signing Aaron Lennon

Agreed,

If Mirallas were to play up front you still have Deulofeu, Lennon, Pienaar, McGeady

I think the reason Barkley ends up playing out wide is because the manager doesn't want to drop him but doesn't fully trust him as a midfielder. I'd like to see him tried more often beside McCarthy and let him learn.

Yes Barkley is good when he runs at players from deep. Not sure about Mirallas upfront because he has a tendency to frequently get caught offside, but as a support striker (No 10) yes.

Pienaar can play centrally as well as can Osman so we have options, even though it would have been good to bring in a quality player in that position.

A good signing on many levels. He has genuine pace which we desperately lacked at times last year and it cost us. The signing of Lennon and Deulofeu this year will put paid to that. Lennon linked up very well with Coleman and helped bring our previously ace right back out of somewhat of a slump, he covers well so allows Coleman to push further where he's very effective. He's another wide player which means we're more likely to not shunt Naismith or Barkley out wide and as such it will reduce us from being so narrow, which teams worked out easily how to play against us like this last season. He's also proven he can come and do a job in his loan spell so he should slip right back in there without too much fuss or risk. Big thing too is that he wanted to come and play for Everton, I like that in any player wearing royal blue.

Last thing is that we go him at a price where it shouldn't have sapped our measly transfer funds and we swerved getting ripped off once more by Daniel Levy.

We shouldn't rage in proxy because he's not the suave attacking midfielder we were after. All in all a good signing, he'll do alright.

Despite a lot of people being underwhelmed, that wasn't a reflection on Lennon, more down to other things and I've not heard anyone say bad word said about him. He'll definitely make a contribution.

Particularly in focusing their mind that they are not just expected to be attackers, they need to help their fullback out at times.

I've mentioned this previously LL and I don't think that's anything to do with the players but that is an instruction by Martinez to particular players to not track back. He definitely tells Mirallas, McGeady, Kone, Del to not worry about tracking back and instructs McCarthy to tuck in. Barry does the same on the opposite side.

It's less noticeable with Lennon as he let's him naturally play his own game as he's a very clever tactical player Lennon. imo this is why Coleman only looked back to somewhere near his level when Lennon was in front.

The lack of cover imo has contributed to Colemans downturn in form.

He was a great signing last season and surprised me how good he was actually was. Other than the Stoke game he was pretty consistent throughout, you wonder where we would finished last season if he'd been there from the beginning.

Fair point although do think sometimes in the past that both Kev and Gerrard have taken that instruction a little too literally. There are times when the defence needs to be helped out to avoid being overrun - an outball is important but sometimes Coleman needs a well placed tackle more. As you say it comes down to tactical awareness to decide when to do it.

I know he's not everyone's ideal signing but we now have Mirallas, Del and Lennon fighting for a space on the wings. That's a lot of pace..

Glad he found a club. More than happy it was Everton. Proper arl arse to just discard a loyal, hard working player after more than 10 years. Giving someone's number to another player while he's still at the club is low. Liking the look of our attacking options, just have to start winning every game 5-4.
