The only this I don't get is why nobody was interested in him. Based on his performance for us last season you'd think if his days were numbered at Spurs, others would have taken a punt.

It was plain for all to see that he still had something to offer last season. Bit of a head scratcher for me.

He only had eyes for us. Decent signing, provides width and a different player from what Gerard, Kev and Naismith are.

Fair point although do think sometimes in the past that both Kev and Gerrard have taken that instruction a little too literally. There are times when the defence needs to be helped out to avoid being overrun - an outball is important but sometimes Coleman needs a well placed tackle more. As you say it comes down to tactical awareness to decide when to do it.

Totally agree LL, it's been one of my gripes with Martinez in that I would like him to stick a rocket up some players arse and when we do lose the ball get back, defend and get our shape.

Too many times we lose the ball and there's 5 players just jogging gently back and for me it just looks like they've been told not to get involved in the tracking/tackling aspect defensively. I think it's why we are one of the easiest teams to carve open.

We definitely don't defend from the front anyway lol

On reflection on that am really intrigued as to how Martinez is going to go with formations now, maybe more of a 4-3-3 withouth getting the playmaker he wanted.

I doubt we'll ever see that tbh. It's too attacking, it'd mean neither Cleverley or Barry playing and that's just not gonna happen.
