Yup, why pass creatively when it's all about the hoof.

….i think it’s more about keeping possession than creating chances for those players. Reid & Bracewell, Kendall & Harvey have dreadful stats from an attacking perspective but those partnerships were totally effective in stopping the opposition and setting up attacks.

Gain possession & keep possession. We certainly need creativity and goalscoring contribution, particularly from wide areas.

Possession based means passing sideways and backwards while probing for opportunities.
Bulbous Benny has already said he wants to go front-to-back quicker which means taking more risky and losing the ball more often.
It also means sitting back on our own penalty area to create the spaces further up the pitch which scares the trousers off me.

…I haven’t listened much to Benitez but I did think we played too much in our back four last season, so I’m all for going back to front a bit more, especially as it plays to the strengths of DCL & Richarlison.

yeah, but it doesn't seem consistent with forcing our best long range passer of the ball out of the club (Hammy Rodz)

I'm can just see the Bulbous Benny way will be to blindly hoof it up to either corner flag for a winger to knock it in and hope the likes of DCL, Doucoure and the opposite winger will be able to get on the end of it.
That would have been ideal for Dumfries.

…I imagine he’ll be encouraging the full backs and CBs to put it into the channels for DCL and Richarlison to chase. I actually think that’s a good option given their running power and keeping the ball skills. i suspect he wants the wide midfielders to catch up and join in rather than be on the end of long balls.

Our strength is our front two, let’s get the ball in the top third quicker on occasion, I’m sure it’ll unsettle the opposition back four.

I agree. We didn't create enough pressure high up the pitch last season. We don't have the ability to play through teams, but we do have 2 fairly quick forwards who don't mind running the channels.

Yeah but we had an Italian manager and you won't get high pressing football from an Italian manager, certainly not an old school type like Carlo.

…I guarantee they’ll both relish chasing the channels & I guarantee opposition defenders will not be wanting to run back towards their goal with those two.

Too often in recent times we’ve persistently looked to play out from the back with defenders uncomfortable in possession & invariably giving the ball away. High risk, small reward. Best to mix things up a bit.

I agree with most of what your saying except I really don’t want to see Dom in the channels again, he needs to stay in the box getting scruffy goals.
If we have a front three I expect loads of balls in to Richy and whoever is right wing with them looking to turn and get at the opposition creating space either for a full back overlap or for Dom centrally to be played in.

…good point, I suppose it’s getting the balance right.

We can't just have Richarlison doing all the running. DCL is a fit lad, and he can pass a ball as well, so he needs to work for the team as well as get goals.

In a front two maybe but in a front three he can have workhorses like Richarlison left and maybe Gray right (I don’t know enough about him tbh) creating space and opportunity for Dom to do what he does best.
It’ll be very interesting to finally see what the plan is, hopefully on Saturday with hopefully both Dom and Rich.

There probably hasn't been time to work on it so it may well be that we just look to generally get it forward earlier and exert pressure. At the beginning of last season we scored a lot from corners, so that maybe an area on which we can capitalise, especially as they've just sold Vestergaard.
