I wont be gloating I just want the 3 points - but when myths like Benitez being a defensive dinosaur get blown away by our own players I cant help but chuckle a little after all the flack thats come my way in recent weeks.

A JR in good physical shape, and who takes his share of the defensive responsibility is a class player. The question is whether that will happen. AD is a fairly limited player, but one of his foremost qualities is his great engine. Then we must let him use it, and not limit it.
His only redeeming quality.

If he did those 3 would be physical and compete but I fear a decent midfield would just play around them.

Sounds like the plan would be to play 4-3-3 with Doucoure as the most advanced. I think I quite like that.

Think Doucoure played advanced in a 4231 for Watford so could play either system tbh.
Would like a Gana type alongside Allan but maybe once fully fit Gbamin can offer a similiar role but more box to box?

Would definitely be a Benitez move to have Doucoure play further forward. While not the best on the ball, he can cause havoc up there for sure. Unfortunately with how this team is currently constructed, we need one more defensive mid to cover. Doucoure absolutely saved some goals last year by playing further back and making last ditch tackles. If Gbamin or a yet to be signed DM sits and allows Allan and Doucoure to push up and press, it's honestly not a bad idea at all. Especially if we keep James at RW or at the tip of a midfield diamond to handle the creativity.
