Good for you. I was listening to a Black head of a UK based football inclusion body explain that it was one of the common football phrases that can be offensive, without meaning to be.

I really dont get why that is a problem.
I think the problem was that you, as a moderator, quoted the poster calling him a beast and suggested Doucoure would knock his head off if he called him that to his face. I'm guessing the poster felt this was very much over the top (as do I and, clearly, many others) as he was clearly meaning the lad played well when you appear to becoming quite sanctimonious over it. Your posts are normally great so I would guess you didn't mean it like that at all but it is how it's come across.

… and to be fair the poster didn’t even call him a “beast”, but referred to “beast mode”, which I always think of in a video game context, I.e. better than others he was playing against.

I just find bringing racism into it utterly bizarre

Thats a fair point. I was not in any way having a go at the poster, we all know the term is frequently used in footie discussions; I was merely trying to highlight the point that some Black men may find it offensive.

I, like most it seems, had no idea till recently.

So lets all move on. If I offended the poster, no offence was meant, and if some was taken, I will happily apologise. Which ironically, was the point I clumsily was trying to make.

For the hundredth time, I didnt say anyone was racist; I pointed out that the phrase/term CAN be offensive to some Black men.

Yea yea, just get a room you two.

Doucoure was absolutely boss today and He together with Richy were Rafaels Angels, henceforth only known as The Angels.

That's a good post, fair play mate.

Now back on track or you're all banned *shakes fist.

"Beasts" or "Beasting" was the practice used by slave owners to maximise the output of their strongest black slaves. Extra food, that sort of stuff, was used to produce their Beasts.

Or a term used by the British military when punishing a cadet/soldier.

Or to describe/compare to an animal.

So depends on what context people choose to use it for or in.
