He should have at least had a go. You aren't going to score if you don't shoot.

Anything could have happened if he had just smashed it, it could have deflected in, could have went through the goalkeeper. Even a save behind for a corner would have been much better at that late stage of the game than falling over the ball and letting them clear

That is what I said.

I get he must have been shattered because he covered alot of ground all game, then a big run like that. Perhaps a lack of confidence and mentally exhausted.

If you shoot and miss, you miss, or it's saved. No big deal, you've had a go, people after the initial frustration will get the fact that you're absolutely knackered at this point. Choosing is try and cut in, when that tired, when lacking confidence, was crazy.

As I said, he was probably mentally exhausted as well as physically, so perhaps that plaeyd a part.

In a confident team he strikes it with his left and at least forces something.

I actually think this had got a lot better under Dyche. I really liked when he said (words to the affect of) he isnt going to have a go at them for having a shot. To me it was another example of level headed, clear thinking, realistic advise hes giving.

We are not good enough to make lots of good chances, so in all honesty "recycling" the ball for us doesnt lead to us creating a better chance. Its leads to us creating 0 chance and sometimes being countered.

I really liked the fact McNeil had that cross shot which was close to going in, and even Mykolenko had a go. It's sort of weight of averaged stuff, but if you get 10 shots, 1 may go in, which is sort of what happened.

Theres no way Coleman takes that shot on under Lampard. He was sending his teams out with the message of dont lose the ball easily. When you then keep losing the ball, it becomes confusing and demoralising.

The whole sequence was good as well, Doucoure good interception, good forward pass to Maupay, good hold up play from him, good run from Coleman and a sensible ball from Iwobi. Very few compartments of that would have been done under Lampard.

It's a lot smarter play, and it's sort of smarter play in a way I think top players like Lampard will probably never really understand. He was an exceptional player, in exceptional teams, where it wouldnt make sense to cede possession. But that's not how you go from being an awful side to an average one.
Agree with that

Also massively leads into why Lampard and Gerrard may struggle with teams that aren't full of players who have unreal natural ability.

I genuinely hope Lampard goes on to be a good manager. I dont believe there was anything fake about his passion, I believe he genuinely liked it here and will hurt him that he wasn't able to turn it around. Needs to take that lesson that you cant play expansive, patient football with players who aren't equipped with it. He also had the other side of not being given some decent footballers as well (how much of Maupay, McNeill was his doing we don't know).

I think he is a very good coach and can help nurture players, but being a coach to being a manager is a different ballgame and he'll to learn those lessons if he's going to have a good managerial career.

“Simms with the through ball, Doucoure is one on one with the keeper, this to seal it for EvertooooooooOOOONNNNN!!”….

Honestly I think he'd do the type of thing he did more often than not, regardless of how the team was playing or how tired he was. He's just not a very good footballer in that sense, there are examples every game of him making poor decisions and/or showing a real lack of quality with the ball at his feet.

Lampard? Frank Lampard?

I agree mate I dont think he's very good technically. I tihnk he suited Ancelotti's way because Doucoure did the dirty work and didnt try to go above his limits.

He was wearing flippers.

It is the only logical explanation for that comedy routine; all that was missing was a slide-whistle sound effect.

Yes,

Notice I said Coach, asin being a football coach, not a football manager. Two very, very differnet job roles. Someone could be a fantastic coach to individiuals day in day out but being able to be that manager, that leads the direction, the tactical style, is a differnet thing.

Just incase it wasn't clear, I wasn't suggesting he's an excellent football manager. Just that I would believe he would be a good coach within a set up.

Yes I did notice that. I'd have said the exact opposite though personally. As a manager he carried himself well - he was good as a figurehead, spoke well, connected with fans, seemed to get on well and be respected by players, could attract new players etc etc. I just didn't see anything to suggest he was a good coach though. Tactically he was rubbish, there was precious little evidence of attacking routines or defensive shapes being worked on on the training ground, and I don't think any player got noticeably better working under him.

I suppose if you are being kind you could praise him for making the run and being available in a forward position. He had a chance against Arsenal as well so if keeps on trying I am sure he will score, my god though we have missed some chances this season!
