Come on lads, ive been 1 of his biggest critics, you cant just say that after 1 game like, surely he deserves a little run in the side see how he gets on?
I have no problem with him starting mate...as I said, he's a good player possessing x factor. But our attacking mid/forward line seems a little more 'bunched' with him there, as opposed to the wider speed and angles that Walcott provides.
But please don't take my previous comment as being in any way negative toward the lad...he's a talent.

He offers far less quality and far less work rate than both Bernard and Walcott.

If he'd have shown any slight hint of a goal threat he would have pushed his case for a run in the team. But he offered absolutely zero, other than being a liability in posession. This isn't the no mark Bundesliga. This is proper tough football and I don't think he's good enough.

The lads got a lot of talent, but he looks like he doesn’t really know how to harness it. He needs a lot of work to become a top player from what I’ve seen.

He’s got very quick feet and can glide past people effortlessly, but he seems a bit of a one trick pony in that sense. He offers little running in behind, either out wide or into the box, and just seems to want the ball to feet so he can skip past people. We need a bit more than that from our attackers, time will tell if he can develop his game.

Truth be told, if someone had told us when we signed him that 2 years later he’d have scored 1 league goal and still not really influenced a game from the start we’d have probably said don’t bother bringing him in. He’s massively underwhelmed so far, and really needs to kick on in the coming months if he’s going to stay.

Not his best game last night, but the defensive set up from Newcastle won't have helped the way he wanted to play, where he would have preferred the game to be more open.

I think if we want to see how he can do, he needs to be given a fair run from the start now. 3 or 4 games. Walcott has been hit and miss for most of the season so don't think we're losing anything by letting Lookman have a go. To expect Lookman to jut come in and be amazing straightaway is unrealistic too, especially in the just 1 game.

Was playing right into Newcastle’s game plan for me. Rather than try and isolate a defender by overlapping Coleman’s runs he was cutting inside a lot. Result was Coleman struggling to go anywhere at times and Lookman being crowded out if he got the ball. Gave the ball away for their goal. You hope he learns.

I don't think he works well with Coleman. Bar a couple of games Coleman's passing & running is extremely negative now. He has lost that confidence since the leg break. Defensive passing is solid enough but the second he turns & looks ahead he instantly turns back & plays a backwards pass.
An attacking winger just cant work with that. Lookman has look better on the left recently when played there briefly because Lucas is a forward thinking passer. Lookman can use this direction of play to his advantage. I find the movement for passing much better on the left side of the pitch in general & i think its why Bernard has created more chances too. Just wish Bernard knew how to stay on his feet.
Walcott's best chances for us recently have been on the end of a positive forward pass for him to latch on to. Unfortunately Walcott can't hit a barn door.

I think it's unfair to judge on one start. Give him 5 starts and see how he develops.

I wasn't really judging him

I just said he didn't take his chance, which he didn't

Harsh though it is, sometimes you only get the one game and you have to make it count

A young Paul Gascoigne would be a great example. He had once chance to impress Bobby Robson before Italia 90 after some so-so England performances by playing against the Czech Republic at Wembley. England won 4-2 and he controlled the game. It was such a good performance that he earned a spot on the plane and became a superstar at the World Cup. If he'd had a damp squib of a game though, then he might not have gone to the tournament. When it was crunch time, he turned up

I hope Lookman gets another chance, but it today's hyper competitive modern day football, you have to make the most of your opportunities when they are handed to you. He didn't do that last night, which was a shame as I thought he'd looked good coming off the bench and this was a great chance for him to lay down a marker and claim a regular starting position

You know me, I'm all about the younger players getting opportunities and I was pushing for him to play. I didn't think he did badly or anything, but he also didn't decisively show that he deserved to be in there ahead of Bernard or even Walcott and DCL. He'll get more chances I think, and if he does I hope he absolutely smashes it and leaves no doubts that he should be starting

hard to judge him on last night, he wasn't great but playing with coleman isn't easy, coleman doesn't overlap anymore so he doesn't have that option, in the first half more so it looked to me coleman was ALWAYS reluctant to pass to lookman,

Anyone who thinks he was any worse than Walcott last night is wrong. Just because he doesn't do the same things Theo does doesn't make him worse. First thing Theo did when he came on was give the ball away ffs. Should start again against Watford.
