Ademola Lookman

I’d argue he’s better than both at that position
It depends on the game I think.
Today, it seemed like playing direct against City was the best tactic and that's what Lookman does best, while Bernard likes to run and pass/cross and Ricko will cut inside.

...to be fair, Lookman hasn’t pulled up trees in the last few games. Bernard is brave in possession and works incredibly hard. I can fully understand why he’s first choice against better opposition away from home. Lookman isn’t better than Richarlison on the left or in any position, there’s no doubt about that.
Lookman was brilliant today. He created more in a half hour than the other wingers have in weeks. Richarlison hasnt been effective out wide since the Southampton game. Maybe Arsenal but it’s been awhile and as i said on his thread his style needs a specific setup that we can’t provide currently. Lookman needs a run in the team.

...look at how many goals Richarlison scores from left side, he’s different gravy. Lookman played well today but he’s had game time of late and not been impressive. I think he’s still only scored one first team goal.

I’m a fan of Lookman but he needs to force his way into the team. A sense of reality.

Don't Leipzig play a back 3 as well? Clearly suited to this formation. And clearly prefers coming in from the left.

Bookman essentially needs to replicate his performances off the bench from the start. Its a very different thing. Some players find it very difficult to come off the bench and get the flow of a game. He doesn't struggle to do so, which is good. However it's different when you start, the pace is faster, players are pinpointing you etc.

I have no issue with him as the superb for now. You are right about end product though, he needs better numbers and assists. He played well today though and well in the derby off the bench, so there is obviously ability there.

Richarlison scores just as much up top without leaving the left flank to Digne alone and losing any sort of creative spark on that side. I love Richarlison, he’s actually my favorite player, but Lookman created almost as much today as he has all season and we need that spark. Richarlison in the middle works better.

I think it's important also to recognize that in the formation we played today, we essentially play with two attacking midfielders or forwards next to DCL as opposed to wingers.

There is room for both Lookman and Richarlison when we play 3 at the back, but no room for Sigurdsson. It's a formation I would like to see us try more of against weaker opposition at home, rather than just stronger opposition away from home.

It leaves for plenty of space for Digne to work with, allows our two most dynamic forwards to find ways into dangerous positions (R and Lookman) and a formation which would suit Gomes as well.

We lost today, majorly due to defensive issues. Maybe I am alone, but for sure I saw some upside.

Leipzig play a 442 but with the wingers drifting inside a lot I believe
I vaguely remember watching a game against Bremen last year where lookman came on and played pretty much the exact same role he played against City and that was a more central role, he scored the winner or equaliser or something that day.

He is far more suited to a more central role. Seems to be filling gaps on the right, Walcott really is our only option there.

..I actually think Richarlison in the middle is a stop-gap. My observation is he’ll actually score more goals from out wide.

If we ever move to the 433 that Silva said he preferred when he first got the job then he would be perfect as the left wing playing sort of a Hazard like inside forward role. In our current system I can't really see him as the center mid but he probably could do at least ok at it. He's been really good on the left both at Leipzig and here and he clearly doesn't do as well on the right because it doesn't fit his natural game as much to not dribble inward.

...but he’s not even played well recently coming off the bench. He’s super talented but as you say, he needs to deliver.

It could be but it will depend on who we eventually bring in to play centrally. Someone like Augustin he can interchange and we can move him to the left again. As the team currently is I feel he needs to be played through the middle with either Bernard or Lookman on the left.

It isnt as simple as moving him to the left. We have two other competent left sides players in the squad.

Although Bernard should be trialled on the right.
