Ademola Lookman

We've asked the England Under 21s manager to criticise his attitude and drop him so that we can 'take the edge off' selling him? It could be that I suppose, or it could be Occam's razor, who knows.

I have no idea what he's like, and nor really does anyone else unless they deal with him day to day

It's just a bit strange to me that so many people are talking about what he's like with such authority when none of them know what's really going on with him

The court of public opinion has already cast it's judgment on him. We have to remember that even though he's a professional footballer, he's also just a 21 year old young adult still trying to find his way in the world. Did you have a full grasp of things at 21? I know I certainly didn't

There's just something about so many people tearing strips off him for personal stuff on a forum like this that doesn't sit well with me. If you want to critique his footballing performances then that's one thing, but should his personality really be on the docket? I just wonder how I would feel at 21 when I was still finding my way into adulthood and complete strangers were ripping into me and calling me a rat

I'd prefer if we could tone that aspect of the thread down, although I expect that to fall on death ears

It has completely put me off repeating my Ohhh Ademola....chant, for fear of being accused of something. Maybe that is a good outcome from the crap on here this morning.

From the start of your use of the rat nickname for Ademola I've been put off a bit by it but I also see all your other posts around here so I kind of let it go. But then to come and post something dismissive of racism, which is undeniably a huge issue in football generally, while also calling a black player a filthy animal, regardless of what he has done or has been perceived to do, is something I'm not a big fan of.
Well im gonna be honest mate, if you think black people are filthy animals, im gonna suggest its YOU thats the problem.

The word rat is a common insult in these parts, not once have I considered its usage racist, im gonna be honest im starting to find these accusations of racism for using the word RATFINK a little insulting myself.

I didnt dismiss racism in football, I just defended my POV, I dont hate him cos hes black, I dont even hate him for a start, anyway, I would suggest this has ran its course from my POV. If you wanna discuss it more might I suggest MORRISO, erm, send me a PM.
I'm not calling him a filthy animal as much as pointing out that referring to him as a rat is using a filthy animal describe him. I know you know that but I'll say it anyway. Regardless I live in a place where casual racism is a common daily thing so maybe it is just me being a bit more sensitive than the average person toward that sort of thing. Lastly the sarcastic bit about how anyone questioning his work ethic is racist is being dismissive of a legitimate racist stereotype.

I mean I really would prefer not to carry this on but I've always felt like the criticism of Lookman has always toed the line a bit and since it was brought up I figured I'd say it.

I once was invited to dinner at an extremsly wealthy Vietnamese families holiday home...

Their kids ate rat next to me at the table...

It's a black colour after roasting...

But I dont believe that @MarcelsGoat was alluding to anything racist and nor do i believe that @TheBigIguana was doing anything more than supporting a player in our squad.

As for Ademola Lookman, i would have thought he would be sold...but who really knows...

I am pretty sure we are not racist as a fan base. I think we treat all young players equally badly - with very little patience and super high expectations. So Lookman should have scored 15 goals and be ahead of Walcott by now, but then so should Davies be the new Tim Cahill, Kenny is not yet the new Coleman, and DCL is not scoring like Lineker did...oh well. But just in case, we can all be careful and kind to each other and make sure we are not crossing the line of being offensive. Personally I really like Lookman for no particular reason and hope that he stays because his flashes of quality look good

The Tories get called rats, "You Tory Rat barsteward" and let's face it, very few of them are black!

I alluded to it in a subsequent post an I'll say it again here before I drop this: I think this might be something that just plays differently where I'm from. I'm not from Merseyside and it feels to me calling someone a rat, or donkey which I saw aimed at Bolasie a lot and felt similarly about, plays to a lot of stereotypes about black people that are unsavory to say the least. If that's not how it works then that's fine and I'm sorry to bring it up but that's how I have seen it.
Exactly, you’re not from Merseyside where the insult “you rat” is common, so why not think twice before throwing harmful accusations at people.

As for the bolasie/donkey comments, I think you need help mate. I remember Ronald Koeman calling Tony Adams a donkey, crazy to think it’s anything more than about football.
