Its not just being called a rat, its been called a rat in context, what has the lad ever done to have character questioned, gone out on loan and did well, tempted by interest from another club, he didnt hand in a transfer request he remained loyal to the club. The only thing he is guilty off is another club tried to sign him. Every player in our squad at the moment, white or black has their agent going around checking their options, thats the game.
Yet comments on his character, attitude, loyalty are all called into question. As are the lazy stereotypes and not doing enough, he actually made more appearances this year then say Tom Davies, however how both are perceived and attitudes question are completely different. Look at certain narratives this year, "Bernard will be great when he adjusts to this league and when he gets fit" contrast them to comments on Ade "hes lazy, he wants to move, hes a rat". Two players adjusting to trying to be competent players in this league in accordance with their developmental needs. Even if he does move this summer it will just be confirmation bias.
I dont believe anyone on here is racist or purposely is being guided by the color of someones skin when they are posting, i do believe those stereotypes exisit in reporting in the media, its been highlighted by Sterling and its naive to think they dont exist and dont influence perceptinon and subsequently behavior, though and in my opinion that has influenced Ades image. He is depicted as somehow a lazy, unloyal, premadonna and is reported on differently then his peers like, Davies, Dowell, Kenny etc. Is Kenny being called a rat this week because he is linked with a move away, Dowell etc. That reporting in my opinion influences fans perceptions of the lad and we get to here. Again i think people arent doing this on purpose, but racial undertones can be personal, systemic, cultural and societal and their is an interplay between each that may not be purposeful but doesnt mean it doesnt exist and influence peoples perceptions and narratives. But it is in important i think to point it out and to reflect on.
There will be a time i might call him a rat, i think i call Rooney one at least 3 times a week, but it wont be without context or cause.
