Not saying he's a boy scout or anything, but I think he's hardly as bad as he's made out to be

Considering the comparative lack of return the other back up players in that position give us (Walcott, Kev, Bolasie) I think we have to go with potential in this instance (Unless we do sign a cracking winger in the window whose going to walk in to the team)

There is still no reason for him to not have been given more consistent appearances since he got here. So what if his attitude isn't the best or he has a bad game here and there? We are playing a bunch of nothings in the same position instead. His stretch at RBL is still the best 6 month attacking stretch by any player we own in years. If we had signed someone who had just done that we would be confused as to why they never got to play. Instead we are ok with it because he isn't always smiling and the guy who plays instead does some back heels 40 yards from goal.

Even if he doesn't grow into a top player, we have to trust the young players when we buy them. The way we have handled him and Vlasic is not the way to grow into a team that can compete for trophies without huge amounts of money. If we get a reputation for being a poor place to grow and develop we will be really screwed.

agree with a lot of what you are saying but he has to show he is up for the fight. Look at the attitude and professionalism of Bernhard, who also has tremendous technique. Richarlison also bounced back from a lean spell and busts a gut for the team. Lookman has to look at them and say to himself, I’m better than him and do more. I think he has looked better in his cameos away from home. Had looked too safe playing at home. I think he has it in his locker but it’s up to him to show it.

There is no sound reason. I don't have to know what our managers reasoning actually was to know that at some point he should have been given a chance instead over the poor collection of wingers, Richarlison aside, that we have been trotting out. I'm not having "he doesnt have a good attitude" as an acceptable reason for not trying to improve the team. Lots of players across all sports have been able to be useful and also massive tits. And if Lookman translated his RBL form to here we would have improved. Again if we had signed Lookman from RBL instead of it being a return from loan this entire forum would be going mad about how little he got in the way of chances.

Exactly. And it isn't just Walcott. Gylfi was shifted wide to largely no effect, Bolasie was used as well and Bernard last year, as much as he is adored here, was really not undroppable. All I'm saying is he should have gotten more than two games every 4 months to prove himself. And the one time he did get that, in Germany, he was one of the best young players in Europe. That's not an exaggeration. Small sample size but he was every bit as good as Sancho for example.

While I'm a big Lookman fan he hardly impressed or staked his claim in the team when he started or got subbed on despite being a very talented player
