Ademola Lookman

Exactly. And it isn't just Walcott. Gylfi was shifted wide to largely no effect, Bolasie was used as well and Bernard last year, as much as he is adored here, was really not undroppable. All I'm saying is he should have gotten more than two games every 4 months to prove himself. And the one time he did get that, in Germany, he was one of the best young players in Europe. That's not an exaggeration. Small sample size but he was every bit as good as Sancho for example.

Apparently the German League is one step above the Vanarama League according to some people on here now because Bayern Munich didn't win the Champions League

I’d like to keep him but if he isn’t putting enough effort in in training to get selected ahead of the likes of Walcott then there’s not much Silva can do. Would love to see him nail down a spot in our team though as the talent is there to be a regular scorer and assist provider.

While I'm a big Lookman fan he hardly impressed or staked his claim in the team when he started or got subbed on despite being a very talented player
He had 3 league starts. And only 500 minutes. By comparison Walcott and Bernard had over 2000 each. It's not really a whole lot of time. And a majority of it was in that December to February period when the whole team was a mess.

But we are sure Neres is a good signing because of one solid season in the Netherlands. It's a bit mad how determined people are to just accept that it is all Lookman's fault that we aren't getting anything from him. As if we've never struggled to maximize the talents of good players.

Silva started him against Newcastle and he did nothing, He's a huge talent but how can we defend him if Silva won't pick him ahead of Walcott? Clearly, Silva doesn't hate his guts because we would have sold him already or offered him about to teams

To me this feels like the usual football fan approach of acting like a player is not really any good because you're sure they're leaving

Happens with every player on here, the minute it looks like they're off they suddenly become crap

It's a coping mechanism

Nobody's sure Neres is a good signing. Nobody is sure Lookman is rubbish/a bad egg etc. People are just trusting the manager, coaches and DoF to be able to do their jobs reasonably well, it's honestly very simple.

One start here another there. 3 weeks on the bench in between with maybe 10 minutes just to get him on. It's not going to do it. I reckon if Marco not only gave him time but made him feel like he's a valuable part of the team he would play with less nerves and perform better. But ultimately acting like 15 starts in 2 and a half years is an opportunity is crazy.

I get that. I'm not there yet with Silva. I was burned by Martinez and Koeman after one half decent season. I need a second productive year from a manager before I'm trusting them completely.

to be fair, Walcott started most games in the first 6 months of the season and was utterely horrific for 95% of them so why he continued to start was baffling

Walcott might have been showing more in training but when it matters on the pitch he was awful, definitely think lookman should have been given more time

we can all speculate as to why he wasn't but I doubt he was as bad as people are making out or Silva wouldn't come out every few months saying he's a part of the future etc

also re lookman, wouldn't you get a little unhappy if your at the club watching Walcott embarrass himself every week and still not get game time?

I think that's perfectly rational

Questioning and critiquing the manager can be healthy, so long as it's fair and balanced

You don't want to put them on a pedestal or act like they're infallible

And as you say being told you are a big part of the future but also never really getting any chances with a third manager probably doesnt put him in a good mood. I honestly would be more concerned if he wasn't pissed but maybe he should just hide it better.

I don't know what to say, From my view, if you can't get ahead of Walcott in the pecking order then you are doing something wrong.

Literally the worst argument in the whole of football this. You can apply it to every single person who has ever lived. How do we know that my 16 year old neighbour isn't as good as Richarlison? We don't. Get him in there Marco, stop holding back the kids. Give a game to everyone who wants one and we'll let the fans decide who's good and who's not. Thumbs up or thumbs down for every player, like in the colosseum, it'll defo work.
Not quite the same. Not every person who has ever lived has played for Everton. And many who have, have shown no promise. Mola has shown glimpses, with very little opportunity to become established. I wouldn't give your neighbour a game just yet!
