Ademola Lookman

lol Fair enough, although he had a good return during his loan spell in Germany.

I wouldn't say that I see him going on to hit incredible heights, but I do think that he looks like someone who can drop the shoulder and make something out of nothing.

I am not Lookman's biggest fan and for a long time wondered what the fuss was about. He does lots of things though that are very difficult to do. He can go past people effortlessly. Not necessarily with blistering pace (ah la Kanchelskis) but with ease. He makes space for himself in the final third as well as anyone I've seen for us. If you can utilise that, you have a serious player in there.

In fairness the club wanted too. They really couldn't have tried much harder but he didn't want to stay. Seen some reports it's 22 rising to 25 million. So we will never know, but likely we trebled our money on him, which is not a bad consolation.

But it's the clubs fault it reached that point. Silva said he wanted to fix it. Then did nothing to actually do it. It's possible it wouldn't have mattered in the end and that he was sold on the move but I don't think you can completely absolve the management of blame.

Lookman gets a healthy share of it too for the record.

If a player barely goes through the motions in training, with a poor attitude why would you bother?

Silva said he wanted to keep him in August because he had a big future and said he had a bad attitude in March. Maybe somewhere in those seven months we could have bothered.

Because obviously we didn't and he was a model pro who made every effort to earn a spot in the side....
If you can't oust Theo Walcott then I'd suggest you really can't be bothered

They could have doubled his playing time for starters... wasn’t given enough of a run to say one way or the other if he could have been good enough.. I think he is right to move given his way is blocked into the first team..

People ignore both wingers are the Managers buys so will be given preference and want to compare Lookman to a 26 year old who has played for Brazil.. and we could easily compare.. that’s how much potential he has..

In any event I’ve said before best for club and player.. hope he develops into the player I believe he can be.. good luck to him.

last word from me...

Cheers Lookman.. that’s fine... but I’m seriously more worried about our striking situation than losing Lookman.. so back to the transfer thread for me.
I'm having a tough time finding many supporters of other clubs who think this is a good thing. I appreciate they won't know all of the history but just the price and the talent level of the player don't really match up.

I think when Silva said he viewed him as a big part of the future Lookman would have come around to staying if Silva had followed through on that and treated him like a big part of the team. That didn't really happen.

And Silva didn't complain about his work rate until 8 months after he decided to keep him. I feel like somewhere in there if he gives him proper game time Lookman might still be here. It isn't like he's going to a place with no competition for places.
Both parties are at fault but Lookman had a clean slate with Silva and if he can't get picked ahead of Walcott who he is a lot better than then questions of Lookman have to be asked.

They do. At the same time I'm in the camp of you do everything you possibly can to play your best players, especially when those players are 21. I've compared it to the NBA before because every good basketball players is some kind of weird and they just do what they can to work with it because otherwise you end up with no good players. That's what I kind of see football becoming between the likes of Pogba, Hazard, Neymar etc. At some point we just have to play the best players.

But it is naive to not blame Lookman at all and I really wonder if he was actually a nuisance like most people assume or if Silva just made a mistake and didn't get him in enough.
