Aiden McGeady

For the last number of years McGeady(and all the other Irish players) had to play under Trappatoni. The man who refused to play McCarhty and Gibson in the Euros two years ago and didn't even deem Coleman good enough to be brought to the competition.

Nobody in their right mind can assess McGeady as a player based on performances for the national team.

I agree with this. RM is a completely different manager to Trapp - McGeady would struggle under Moyes I believe also.

However I think he would be a great addition to this squad.

I am an Ireland season ticket holder also and admit that McGeady can be frustrating but he is also the one player on the pitch that can get all the fans on their feet when he makes his runs because he is not afraid to go at a player. He and a on form Miralles would torment any defence. He will have better players around him and I think would actually be a very good signing just to give us more options. Just look at what Deloufeou brought us with a bit of pace and trickery. Only 26 free transfer, I can not see any problem with this signing if it happens. Same people moaning that were moaning about McCarthy[/I]

Man, ive been watching him for years for Ireland and he is the most frustrating player to put on the jersey. He will beat two players have two forwards in the box and not get the ball past the first man.
Not sure what match it was but one of the recent games i counted eight corners and he didnt beat the first man on any.
I have wanted him dropped from the Ireland squad for years and now he could play for my beloved Everton.
THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!!!!

He won't need to put a cross in at Everton. I'd like to see the stats for Mirallas and Pienaar but I don't remember many crosses this season from them; it's Oviedo/Baines and Coleman on the overlap.

That's the key - I agree that McGeady has terrible delivery of a ball from wide areas, but we don't need him for that at all. We need him to be able to take a ball in and run with it, laying off to available players and making himself available for one-two's. I think he can certainly do that.

You're comparing chalk and cheese when looking at McGeady for the Republic of Ireland. They play an archaic system of football compared to us with vastly inferior players.

I have massive faith in Martinez, odd how he has been linked with us for so long + 2 different managers though?

Some good points there. If McGeady's main downfall is his crossing then I'm not that worried. As you say he won't be required to do that very much. I'd much rather have a player who can beat a man than cross a ball (if I had to make a choice) in this Everton side, anyway.

On this forum i'm not so sure. Some people would rather we had a **** game just to prove their point sometimes.

this. they then vault themselves to show what a great judge of player they are

No offence. But that's just not true.

Take me and my McCarthy madness over the summer. My god did I not want him. But bloody hell have I proved wrong.

Maybe, just maybe, the manager knows better than anyone on this forum? Including you two.

...looking on according to latest reports, its just a matter of a fee to bring him in now or sign pre-contract agreement for later. I don't feel strongly about the player, but if RM wants him I suspect he will be a valuable acquisition.
