Alan Myers leaves Everton for 'personal reasons'.

I don't know the full details, but it's definitely because of him.

Like Moyes stank the place out at Finch Farm for the last few years because of how controlling he was, Elstone is the same. His way or the highway.

Hopefully it doesn't mean that we go backwards now after all the hard work Alan and the media staff put in.

I'm taking a flying guess here, but I wonder if this has erupted in the wake of the Umbro deal/kit presentation?

I wondered at the time why on earth the club was drawing attention to this changeover and trying to get publicity from it, as it just led (as anyone might anticipate) to people dredging up the Kitbag deal again and pillorying Elstone for cutting that giveaway deal.

I dont know for sure, but I could see Myers being responsible for getting this PR together and attempting to give the club a boost and it's had the reverse effect...remember all the nationals were carrying stories of the PR stunt but also questioning why there were no headline investment figures to go with it. VERY embarrassing for the imbecile who cut the deal in the first place.

Maybe I'm wrong, probably am. But something like that may have brought petty jealousies to a head and seen Myers out the door.

...that's good induction Dave...being well experienced in corporate politics, insecurities, rivalries and petty jealousies (which is why I left and started my own business), I am totally buying that hypothesis.

Thing is Alan quoted the "demands of the club", what was being placed on Alan that he had to jack the best job in the world and take danger money from the Venkys?

It fits the situation nicely. Maybe, maybe not. Elstone appears to have the ego of a small planet. I'd guess he was WELL pissed off with that Umbro PR stuff. It just called attention to his balls up.

Fair enough.

Everton can today confirm Director of Communications Alan Myers has left the Club for ‘personal reasons’.

Mr Myers, who re-joined Everton from Sky Sports in August 2013, leaves his position at Goodison Park after tendering his resignation.

A Club spokesman said: “Alan has informed the Club that he sees his future career away from the demands of Goodison Park. We respect Alan’s wishes and would like to thank him for the contribution he has made since arriving at Everton. Everyone at the Club wishes him the very best for the future.”

Wonder who the clubs spokesmen was...his boss?

It,s time like this when you need the fox to straighten it all out.

Could very well be something to do with this. Out of all the fan get together/reveals so far, this one was the strangest as it highlighted negatives rather than positives. No actual figures regarding the deal where given either making it a strange public announcement.

Yep, I was amazed watching the unfolding disaster on the day. Dont get me wrong - it was the type of buffoonery that could have worked if there was some end product to it...like a cash announcement. But all it did was draw derision and (as said) a shed load of national coverage motivated by head scratching on the (non)financial side of the deal. That must have been very uncomfortable for Elstone. He'd successfully buried the Kitbag balls up at club/local level...this projected it beyond those environs and I bet he was mightily pissed off.

Maybe myers tried to set Elstone up?

Dont know about that mate. It was difficult for Elstone: there the new shirt deal was to be announced, yet it was also an embarrassment too. Maybe he'd have rather it was a brief announcement without any song and dance about it and quickly put to bed with no fuss, but Myers felt he could make it a successful launch and a PR boost for Everton?

Just wildly guessing here trying to understand the motive for this.

This whole situation has really depressed me

I thought he was doing an excellent job

To me Mikey he was just another cog in the wheel there at L4. I wouldn't trust any of them. But he did seem to genuinely make a difference on the fan comms stuff, so it does feel like a loss.
