I'll add that to my helpful tips for American posters on GOT:

Haha! For a titchy little rock in the Atlantic, we really do have a baffling genetic make up to non Brits. Blame the French basically. They popped over in 1066, have havnt left.

The 7th largest city in France? London.

I am probably typical of folk from the Liverpool area. Welsh Gran. Irish ancestory. 1/2 Scottish nephews. But I am English.

As you might say. Go figure.

The pasty pastry was formed into a thick crust along one side. This sealed the contents, but just as importantly provided a 'handle' for the pasty. This may sound ridiculous, but the miners eating them would have hands covered in poisonous compounds, so the crust was discarded after the rest of it had been eaten.

Fuming here. Never knew that. An absolute waste.

Just like the divvy's who don't eat the crust on a pizza.

Not too different here, although we tend to self-identify as American rather than through our ancestry.

My dad's family is from Alsace Lorraine and self-identified as Prussian when they transplanted themselves to the Texas prairie in the 1840s.

My mom's side is originally from Yorkshire with a couple of generations in Ireland with some Native American sprinkled in here and there after they moved over here.

Think about that. I'm the product of German Texans and Irish Yorkies.

Small wonder I can't self-identify with anything :)

Yeah, but in Merica, unless I am mistaken, the ethnic background is like, part of being a Merican? Like you can be an Irish Merican, an Italian Merican, etc etc? But you are all Mericans.

Over here, it is English, Scottish, Irish, or Welsh. Except it isnt. Like someone wouldnt say they were a Scouse English, or Irish Brit, or something.

We are basically a bit conflicted.

Yeah, to a point. In some areas, the families are so insular that they've maintained their culture.

For the vast majority though, it has become so muddled by marriage and time that we self-identify by State or region.

I'm an Arkansan. Most here would self-identify as Southerners, but I don't, for political reasons.

I'm about to self-identify with some homemade pasties though.
