I would say more a player we hoped for rather than expected mate considering his biggest problem at Arsenal was consistency. I remember Arsenal fans saying that at the start of a season they would be hoping that would be the season he kicked - on, but apart from a few good games here and there he never really kicked - on.

I don't think he's ever going to reach the level that his price tag suggests he should, but at least he's contributing.

Think people might be going slightly overboard about his last few games to be honest, but he's certainly been better this season than he was for most of last season. He's still not really looked like someone I'd want pencilled into the team long term but he's doing enough to keep his place for now.

I remember being in Lille and watching him maraud toward the box with the ball and take on a shot just missing the post. Probably the most excited I’ve ever been watching Everton.

There has been an improvement, but from a very low base of expectation.

He is well past the age where he can "develop" and he is what he is, but I haven't lost all faith in the ability of good coaching and hard work to get more from any player.

It is as much about confidence and attitude - if he is willing to work and gets an extended run, we will recognise that for what it is and give due praise.

It's the shirkers that get no sympathy and it will be ever thus.
