Thought he was good. Was clever with the ball, and made the right pass most of the time.

Have to agree he can switch off at times. I don't think it's an effort thing but maybe a culture(Wenger) or defensive intelligence issue. He’s not a right midfielder in a million years, at least not starting for a team looking to get in the mix for top 4. He’s toiling away manfully, we have nobody else to play there but it’s not a long term solution.
Out of possession and off the ball is where it really shows, particularly dealing with movement and runners off the ball - he switches off. He’s a forward brought up and schooled by Wenger at Arsenal, forwards didn’t have to defend - it was a similar ethos to Bobby Martinez here. He did an interview last year saying the biggest difference between Arsenal and Everton was that he had to defend and contribute out of possession and it shows.
Am not really enjoying 4411 so hopefully we don’t play it much next season. Seems like Carlo’s go to set up when he wants to play defensively though, which has been quite often this season, so we may well be seeing it again. Just hope we sign actual right and left midfielders to play it.
He’d be alright if he was signed on a free as a squad player, mad that we spent 30 odd mil on him though, poor signing
Essentially we did it one time last season against West Ham at home and it was genuinely the best performance we had the entire year.Maybe I just dreamt it but I'm sure we played him through the middle a few times and he was actually decent.
Again though we can look at colemans involvement in the goal for example was the rest of his game good enough. If we win the game they can get away with it by all means.Other than of course the part where he played the pass into the box that opened City up for our goal you're right nothing.
If we win thats fab but we didn't. He was then exposed once again. One of the only times we actually were in the final third he played it into coleman for our goal ffs haha
I thought him and Davies were good tonight ,Cant believe they both come off before others ,maybe saved for derbyThought he was our best player tonight, disagreed with him coming off. Starts in the derby for me.
You've in three posts moved from "he gave possession away too much" to "he didn't have any impact in the final third" to "well he wasn't involved all the time." It's ok to just say you don't like the guy.Again though we can look at colemans involvement in the goal for example was the rest of his game good enough. If we win the game they can get away with it by all means.
Goals and assists in the last two seasons at Everton GO.......He put a nice ball into Sigurdsson just outside the six yard box who pirouted for some reason before hitting the ball at about 2mph.
Was it him who gave the ball to Digne in loads of space at the edge of the box in the second half too? The one where he inexplicably just hoofed it high into the air?
It’s nothing to do with effort, you’re right. It’s everything to do with a player with forwards instincts and who has never been taught or had emphasis put on positioning out of possession and dealing with movement of runners. Right mid in a defensive 4411 is totally, totally different to playing as a wide forward in, say a 433. He’s doing a job, is capable of good moments and good games but not a long term option in this formation/position.Have to agree he can switch off at times. I don't think it's an effort thing but maybe a culture(Wenger) or defensive intelligence issue.
