2020/21 Alex Iwobi

Iwobi reminds me of a baseball trade my team made about 15 years ago. There was this enigmatic pitcher that the Mets gave up their top prospect for because their massively egotistical pitching coach said "I can fix him in 5 minutes". Spoiler: he didn't. Same with Iwobi. There was really nothing to suggest Iwobi was a top player or could develop in to one, just, apparently, someone Brands had a weird fascination with.

It was a baffling signing. My mate supports Arsenal and we used to watch champions League games together and he always stood out as being their weak link

I assume Brands looked at the statistics and he performed well in key areas. He’s nowhere near fulfilled that promise though, and has been an awful signing overall let’s be honest. We’ll be lucky to shift him too.

People have a go at Gylfi for hiding. This lad is the king at it.

One decent run and fair enough unlucky with his shot. But he never opens his legs, hardly did anything for 20 minutes other than give the ball away.

We need far better and not his fault all the onus was on him to come on and change the game yesterday, but we literally had to move James back because even he has more defensive nous than Iwobi.

£28m man.

What a slap in the face that was last night by Carlo to all those young lads on the bench calling on Iwobi instead of one of them.

To be sat there, no doubt buzzing to be in the squad and desperate to get on, only to see proven loser Iwobi given the nod ahead of you, must have felt terrible.

If I'm one of them and that happens to me, I think it tells me that Carlo isn't going to give me a chance and I'm best looking to play elsewhere, ie. at another club.

I cannot believe Carlo genuinely thought that the best approach to try to win the game was to bring him on. Two years he's been with us and he's been utterly pathetic in almost every game.

Well angry about that, me, Lord knows what those lads on the bench are feeling today.
Haha, bit dramatic that but ok lol

I actually liked him at Arsenal and could see bags of potential, my concern was always that he had never seemed to nail down a concrete position or play consistently.

I'm officially calling time on any hopes i had. He excels at nothing. He's barely capable in any position. Shooting is poor, passing abysmal, control unexplainable, workrate non-existent, attitude vomit inducing.

Watching him come on, miscontrol the ball off his shins before either losing the ball or checking inside and playing a 2 yard pass backwards or inside was the final straw for me.

I know there's been a baleful of pathetic last straws of performances from him but that's it. Truly.

One of the reasons i liked him was because he is related to Jay Jay Okacha and had a miniscule hope he had some of his magic in his boots. That hope is extinguished.

I only liked him from watching a handful of Arsenal matches drunkenly in the pub. Somebody actually got paid to scout his performances, attitude and ability and thought he was the best available option.

Absolutely pathetic. I honestly hate this squad so much.

....Ancelotti spoke afterwards about the lack of transition from back to front, I imagine that’s why he brought Iwobi on. I’m not defending Iwobi, I agree he’s been a huge disappointment but from what I know of the youngsters on the bench, they were not the type to help with that regard.

The substitution shouldn’t be seen as either Iwobi or a youngster. Ancelotti could’ve brought on another sub as well as Iwobi.

Iwobi had* a decent run of games mid-season where he would at least pick up the ball in our third and charge into the attacking third. His end product was poor (that great goal away to Wolves notwithstanding) but at least the ball got forward.

*Past tense.

The youngsters are just that...youngsters.
There is no young Wayne Rooney in that group and most will leave Everton without getting the few minutes Broadhead got last night.

Bringing them on would have served no purpose

I had hoped Iwobi would be a good signing , I thought he had all the ingredients to be a very good player for.
There was a little while during the season where he began to look like the player we expected and hoped to see... but that fizzled out quickly. I think we would like to sell him but I can't see where the buyer will come from to cover salary and a transfer fee.
Maybe a swap, but more likely another loan.
I imagine Iwobi will be fed up with having drifted out of consideration as well.
But, I can't see a future for him here now.

Fair enough but if you are interested in signing a player stuff the statistics, go and look at the player a few times, that will tell you all you want to know, or it should do if you are any judge of a player, after about five games watching Iwobi with Everton I knew he had no bottle or heart besides his other deficiencies, too late then, but if you are spending around £30M you have got to know what you are spending it on, a very careless option to buy this fella.

The sad thing about that is that his first 5 games were probably among his best for us. Scored a couple of headers weirdly.
